PROJET
TERMINÉ
In 2016, the third edition of Budapest International Documentary Festival will be held between 24 September - 1 October in Budapest, Hungary. The festival was established in 2014 by Ágnes Sós, internationally acclaimed director of documentaries and Rita Balogh, producer, with the goal to fill a huge void in Hungary. The reasons were manyfold. When other documentary festivals were flourishing all over the world, the genre was practically non-existing in Hungary, and thus, there was simply no more time to wait. We the crew of BIDF is aware that the European youth has to face reality and they can successfully do that through the unique power of documentaries: with both artistic and entertaining means they are capable of helping us understand what is going on in this world through authenticity and humanity - in depth. In Hungary, the demand for such films has been at least as important as everywhere else in the world, only the access was limited. Moreover, when democratic values are jeopardised, opening an eye to the world is actually a necessity. BIDF 2016 is going to be the only international competition festival in Hungary for documentaries from all over the world without thematic restriction, with money awards and an international jury. We invite all directors with the films in competition in order to provide our audience a unique and truly unforgettable experience: not simply a set of screenings, but a real festival with QandA sessions. BIDF is also a year-long project: we do not let go the hands of our audience. For this reason, we organize monthly screenings, we create a continuous and functioning co-operation with secondary school teachers with the goal to include documentaries in the curriculum, and we co-operate with higher film educational institutions with the goal of involving a young generation of the film professionals in our network, and we provide them access to our international network. BIDF 2016 will include an industry program that creates an exclusive opportunity for young talents.
