The Initiative Christians for Europe e.V ./ ICE conducts for 25 years political- social youth education, international youth exchanges and voluntary services, and thus combines civil engagement and intercultural learning. The project "Bridges of humanity" ("Brücken der Menschlichkeit") offers young people to carry out a service in social and youth centers which supports and connects human rights and international bonding, the principle of volunteering, service, learning and taking over responsibility. The current project includes two participants (Julia Elben and Sophia Kind), who worked as a volunteer in Bethel's Centre for Pastoral Care for 12 months. They helped socially disadvanteged children of broken families to grow up and to increase their independence and sense of responsibility. Their low-threshold interventions on education helped to develop the children's social and decision-making skills. In this manner, the volunteers have contributed to integration and to reduce discrimination. The Project could be carried out by the fund in the amount of 15.500 € of Youth in Action Programme.
