Briding the gap - Anti discrimination work in the formal and non-formal sector

The (international) youth work has been challenged with the discrimination phenomena taking place in the contemporary European societies. Irrespectively of being based any of the lines of differentiation, it is present in our daily lives and impacts ourselves and the communities we live in. Youth work can play an important role in conducting anti-discrimination measurements on a variety of levels and contribute to a positive change. The training course “Bridging the gap” taking place in Armenia, Aghveran, from February 14th- 22nd, 2015, addresses a number of issues connected to the phenomenon of discrimination using the anti-bias approach. The overall objectives of the project are to provide a space for the participants for an in-depth reflection on topics related to discrimination with a special focus on discrimination based on cultural identities. The participants will be equipped with innovative tools and methods, to be implemented in their daily work with young people. An important emphasis lays also on the development of strategies for cross-sectorial cooperation. Also, the course will provide the spacer for developing follow-up projects aiming at raising the awareness of young people of discriminatory practices and to raise their motivation to act against social injustice. The training course is addressed to youth workers and leaders, as well as professionals from the formal education sector that have a strong interest and motivation to get actively involved in anti-discrimination practice. It includes total of 26 residents of the following countries: Germany, Sweden, Italy, Slovakia, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, and Armenia. During the training course, the participants will be introduced to the anti- bias approach, that allows to address not only different kinds of discrimination but reflects upon power relations and our personal experiences from being a discriminating and a discriminated against. Along with this approach, also elements of non-violent communication, dragon dreaming, open space technology and forum theatre will be included in the project.
