BrEAk the WAll...BricK by Brick
Date du début: 2 janv. 2016, Date de fin: 1 mars 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project "BrEAk the WAll...BricK by Brick - BE AWAKe" is a an individual EVS and involves two volunteers, one from Finland and one from Bulgaria, for a period of 9 months in Naples, Italy, at CEICC – Centro Europeo Informazione Cultura e Cittadinanza, which is an office of the Municipality of Naples jointly managed with the Universities of Naples. The Centre’s mission is to make Europe closer to its citizens by supporting the European integration process through information and communication activities aimed at facilitating exchanges between different peoples and cultures. The activities carried out by CEICC-Napoli are addressed mainly to the citizens of Southern Italy and Mediterranean area, with a specific view to young generations, migrants and citizens at risk of social exclusion. The project focuses on the themes of European awareness and European citizenship, on intercultural dialogue and social inclusion since the volunteers’ main tasks are to promote the meaning of the European citizenship and the feeling of belonging to a wider community through an exchange between their origin culture and the local one, to contribute to prevent and fight xenophobia, stereotypes and any kind of discrimination and to promote intercultural and intergenerational exchanges based on non-formal education activities. The main activities for EVS volunteers consist in helping to organize initiatives to involve young people and adults in info-days and workshops about EU training opportunities, in raising citizens’ awareness of their rights, in promoting intercultural dialogue and multilinguism as well as developing new skills and competences, according to the changing labour market. With reference to the three topics chosen Inclusion - equity, EU Citizenship, EU awareness and Democracy, Intercultural intergenerational education and (lifelong)learning, each volunteer is engaged in daily activities but with differents tasks and competences. Both volunteers cooperate in Library and Info-desk and shop activities in order to reach and involve local people, in particular the ones who are less informed and active because of social, cultural and geographical reasons. The project is thought to make each volunteer to develop their own attitudes and cultivate his/her interests. One volunteer is involved in intercultural activities and in the planning and carrying out of initiatives mainly addressed to migrants, refugees and young people with fewer opportunities. The other volunteer is engaged in the communication field, in order to better reach the different targets groups, strenghtening the communication tools and channels already existing and to experience new ones. The methodology used aims at making volunteers independent and self enterpreneurs by participating into the drafting and planning of the activities, showing the benefits of cultural diversity and the added value of the EU citizenship and its rights. An Italian language course is provided to each volunteer, plus a training in Management of European Projects and trainings on Intercultural teaching methodologies and on new communication tools and trends. Our staff prepares the volunteers using non formal tools and monitoring them costantly. The foreseen impact is a higher consciousness of belonging to EU, a stronger interest in EU topics and a more active participation in the local community. As for the long term benefits we intend to equip volunteers with all the tools and key competences which can help them in the future and to increase the impact of the organisations partners in their local territories as well as to better our work thanks to this international and intercultural project. The title of the project refers to the challenge to rebuild our Europe by breaking barriers, stereotypes and by creating a new way of living together and of bettering our communities where differences have not to be cancelled but revalued.
