The theatre project "BODY MEMORY" is a multilateral exchange (with Spain, Italy and Romania) based on the use of non-formal education and on the theatre as tool for social transformation. The project will take place in Madrid from the 28th of March to the 8th of April. Moreover, there will be an Advanced Preparatory Visit (APV) planned for the 21st and the 22nd of February. “BODY MEMORY” responds to the need of a group of young people that are part of the association Residui Teatro and to the need of their peers coming from the partner associations. The aim is to make a historical review of their home countries and understand the legacies that have been established, today and in the daily life. Residui Teatro Association works through theatre and dance, using the body as the main working tool. That's why the group research starts from the body and moves toward it as a study object and a discloser component. The body is a map of the history. The human body reflects the violence and the blocks of the cultural heritage. It is built together with the context and reflects the current reality through the shape, the appearance, the movement and the use of itself. The current reality is made by all the past realities. The goal of "BODY MEMORY" is to look at the history of each participating country, restore the historical awareness to avoid continuing to feed their negative legacies, so unconsciously impregnated in our body and in our way to inhabit it. An important goal is also to learn to use art as a tool for social and personal transformation, for the development of the communication in the local and intercultural environment. We expect a first period, before the realization of the exchange, in which each participating country will conduct a work of historical documentation and artistic creation. All the countries have a historical past where they have been dominators or colonizers, dominated or colonized. The partners will make a research work in which they will emphasize the different historical roles that, as country, they have had or they still have. From this research work, through its theatrical tools, the groups will realize an artistic creation; the approach is to develop, through the documentation (texts, photographs, movies), a series of characters. In this way the groups come to the realization of the exchange with a creative background composed of a series of roles and characters that, melting with the creations of the other participants, will develop (at different stages of work) a collective creation, result of the whole process. This creation work will not be a performing show of just one day and without continuity, but we gonna work to create a show "format" that can be set again in other contexts (in Italy and in Romania) and that allows to develop and to get used to other groups, previously participating to a theatre and dance workshop and working on the different contexts. This aspect will provide continuity and visibility to the project and to further researches. This historical inquiry, in addition, will lead the participants to consider the role of their country in the European Union and to empower themselves as a member of the EU to build a collaborative, participative and dynamic Europe. We will have groups of young with a theatrical background. Why? During the project we gonna realize a deep theatrical and thematic research, that will lead us to the different fields, as the dictatorships, the colonization, the human rights violation or the loss of identity. For this reason, we need young people with some experience, who will be led by prepared professional educators, able to face this new search and to develop from it an artistic quality product that afterward can be used as a vehicle for transmitting this research to other youth. All the project long we will put into practice: a creative presentation of each group, a physical theatre workshops directed by the coordinators of the three groups, the realization of a collective show co-directed by the three group coordinators, the creation of the show “format” that can be repeated in each participating country, a Gymkhana game in the Acacias district, a meeting with the Historical Memory Platform of Madrid, a popular meal in the neighborhood, a city tour, an open meeting with Sanchis Sinisterra and Eduardo Perez Rasilla, creative promotion and presentation of the final show in the Acacias neighbourhood, activities documentation.
