PROJET
TERMINÉ
The project "Blue Planet - Water Around Us" is complementary to an earlier Nordplus project “The world is moving and so are we”. The project was about outdoor education as means of increasing children’s interest and skills in Science and Mathematics. In this project we want to focus on water from all possible perspectives, exchange experiences, learn from our different approaches and further improve and develop each pre-school's abilities to work with environmental issues in order to increase our children’s interest and skills. We will therefore explore how pre-schools in Sweden, Estonia, Iceland, Poland and Spain are working or would like to work with the topic “water” as a way of increasing the interest and skills in environmental issues. Furthermore, as this project is cooperation between pre-schools, language and culture learning will also be addressed. In this project we want to teach our children the value and importance of water. We want them to understand how to keep the water clean and how to reduce water overuse. It’s essential that they learn how water is transported and sanitized for consumption, how it is used in agriculture and energy, and its status as a depleted and unreliable resource in some regions. Awareness and learning will be cross curricular and include art, music, geography, science, ICT, drama, mathematics, cultural knowledge and environmental problems. We will use varied topics, but we will try to bring to the children through the games and play.
The project's objectives are:
- to promote the development of quality, creativity and innovation in our preschool education
- to increase the preschool teachers’ knowledge and skills to teach children about the value of water, by exchanging knowledge and experiences with each other
- to equip the preschool teachers with new educational methods, by sharing methods, materials, lesson plans etc.
- to increase the use of ICT in teaching and communication
- to give our children an opportunity to interact with other children from different backgrounds, countries, and thus broaden our European prospective
The focus is on teacher level and the main aim is therefore to increase the teachers' skills and abilities on how outdoor learning can be used in order to increase children's interest and skills in mathematics/science. The project will affect more than 800 children and approx. 155 teachers in the participating preschools.
