Binding capacities
Date du début: 1 janv. 2015, Date de fin: 30 juin 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project "Binding Capacities" (March to November 2015) is taking place in Lisbon and Cascais, Portugal and involves 2 volunteers. The volunteers will be hosted in two different organizations : Rota Jovem and GAT. They are in their mid twenties and are motivated to work i in social areas ( adults from vulnerable backgrounds infected or in risk of HIV and related diseases) and in youth work (developping projects for youngsters in youth associations). Mostly the methodology involved wil be non-formal education, as it is expected in mobility projects. As the name of the project implies with "Binding Capacities" we expect that different actors with different capacities can come together in a project and work on a common goal, mainly social inclusion and youth participation. This project, the first EVS project of GAT, will establish a partnership between Rota Jovem and GAT and allow both volunteers to work in different hosting organizations (GAT and Rota Jovem) but also to collaborate with each other on their own projects, bringing thus the community/health intervention and social activism from GAT into Rota Jovem and the youth dynamization, non-formal methodology and volunteer experience from Rota Jovem into GAT. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: - to promote the partnership of GAT and Rota Jovem as collaborative civil society organizations; - to create a space of collaboration between volunteers using their skills to support each other's work; - to support the social inclusion of vulnable populations through volunteer's work; - to support working staff in the dynamization of the community center in GAT and the youth center in Rota; - to foster social inclusion of vulnerable populations; - to motivate youth participation in civil society organizations; - to provide volunteers with skills and knowledge necessary for their professional and social lives; - to educate young people into the basic values of Human Rights and Democratic values. In GAT, the EVS volunteers will deepen their knowledge on HIV/STI related issues and harm reduction for drug users, developing a more tolerant approach towards the target populations. Therefore the volunteers become more aware of their own behaviors and beliefs about HIV, which will be of added-value to overcome prejudice and develop a more open understanding of social realities and behaviors. They will also share their experiences and visions in their home countries, not only on Portuguese culture issues but, most importantly, on what HIV represents to society and what should still be overcome, becoming thus more aware of societal and structural realities of the country. In Rota Jovem, volunteers will understand the importance of local youth orgabnizations that prepare activities for youngsters and create a space of share and friendship. Youth Associations are the first platforms for youth participation and social engagement and therfore by collaborating with one, volunteers are improving the conditions of the youth and contributing to more active and happy communities.
