Bilingual teachers in Europe

Our school is a bilingual school within the British Council programme. This is our ninth year within the programme, our initial bilingual students are now in the sixth year of primary education. Students begin learning english in the first year of infant education. In primary the subjects taught in English are: social science, natural sicence, literacy, arts and maths. The latter is one hour per week in the first, second and third year. We have also been involved in different Comenius projects in recent years.Our objectives are: to improve our linguistic competence in English, to further develop the training programmes we are learning in our school (cooperative methodology, emotional intelligence) and the methodological aspects related to the bilingual programme (clil methodology, jolly phonics methodolody).Our school is small so the communication between the participants in the project would be quite easy. Bilingual teachers have one specific meeting together every month and we have prepared ten movilities so the maximum number of teachers can benefit from the project. These movilities are focused on doing courses abroad related to the aspects we are dealing with in our school everyday. Moreover and because of our speciality (foreign language) we consider very important to broaden our horizons we can practise the language we are teaching in a more realistic way. We expect the impact of the project to be significant. We are will improve our linguistical competence, different pedagogical knowledge and motivation for the teachers will increase. These improvements will transfer directly to our students and colleagues. This impact is going to be shown in our annual bilingual report through a selfassesment. A blog is going to be created and linked to our webpage. We are going to promote the project via our school magazine and the local newspaper. The long-lasting benefits are going to be: better prepared teachers for a quality bilingual education.
