Content
Our teaching staff whom we have identified as being distanced from innovative and creative teaching methods need support for using digital media and its tools more actively, having knowledge about new teaching methods and how to use tablets and interactive boards related with these methods.
Within “ Knowledge and Creativity Based Learning School “ model, we have priority targets for creating lesson environments to upskill with 21st Century skills, and providing an environment of creative and critical thinking and Project culture.
Objectives
The aim of the project is to learn innovative teaching methods (collaborative, problem solving based , focused on creative and critical thinking, project based learning, and knowing how to use computing technology accurately on these subjects. Besides, it is aimed to create a climate in which creative and critical thinking is developed,and increasing the ratio of foreign language learning with CLIL method. In addition, teachers are assisted to improve language skills and tolerance for differences by introducing foreign culture to the participants. Another target of the project is that teachers who participate in these courses wil help to bring the innovations to the school by assuming the role of changing agents.
Number of the participants and their profile
Our project covers 15 teaching staff who work at Gazi Anatolian High School in Akdeniz, Mersin. Critearia in choosing the staff for three different activities have been defined seperately. In this context, there will be shown enough care to include teaching staff who have minimal level of information about web 2.0 tools and who are keen on using them in their classes. About creative and critical thinking and innovative approaches to teaching, those who are open-minded, ambitious and who take part in activities will be given priority. Thanks to this, the leader teachers who have team spirit will have a positive effect on other teaching staff school.
Definition of the Activities
Our project will begin on 1st September, 2015 and last for 12 months. It includes 3 different courses held by International Training Center (ITC). Courses have been arranged according to the holiday time in order not to disrupt the flow of the classes. It has been aimed to complete the Project almost in a year and thus we hope to see the effects of these activities in a faster way at our school. Participants will be determined according to the criteria made up by SDMT and an independent expert.
Related with the ICT in Education Course, the new ICT tools will be introduced to the teachers and they will be given the education of how to use them in their classes. Besides, usage of tablets and interactive board will be featured.
During “Encouraging Creative Thinking” course, how to teach creative and critical thinking skills will be provided. Additionally, it might be stated that providing information transfer, removing mental blocks, problem solving and struggling with the problems will be taught.
“Innovative Approaches to Teaching” course,-technology and information have increased rapidly nowadays- will provide personal, collaborative and project based metods which will help students to improve new academical skills, faster ways of info attainment and use of social media.
Methodology
Since, our main target in this Project is to become one of the schools of the future, prefarable inclined to team work, tolerating the differences and an open-minded approach have been accepted.
Envisaged result
With this Project, teachers will learn how to use their tablets as the supporting tools of the new methodology. Problems that are faced during FATİH Project will try to be solved with the course of active use of ICT tools in classes. “Encouraging Creative Thinking” course will teach our trainees how to support their students for critical and creative thinking.
What is aimed with “Innovative Approaches to Teaching” course is that to prevent the problems that the students face due to classical approaches in education.
Impact
At our school where we try to form a future scenario, it is aimed to become a high level of universal literate, the ability to use computer and basic information and skills from socio-cultural aspects. Education should no longer stay in monopoly of the schools. Almost all institutions should be benefited for education process.
Besides, gaining learning motivation and the discipline to continue to learn for all the staff at school, to become a school which is able to transfer the info as both content and process are the expected outcomes of the project. Information should be practiced while being retrieved and it should be developed in this way.
