BEYOND WORDS: The communication of concepts, ideas and universal values through the alternative language of art.

In the project " BEYOND WORDS " we have worked on the subject of the communication of concepts, ideas and universal values drawing on the wealth of the alternative languages of art: music, painting and sculpture. The partnership, coordinated by the Spanish school IESO QUERCUS, was made up by eight schools of different European countries, geographically and culturally distant: BULGARIA, FINLAND, GREECE, ITALY, NETHERLAND, ROMANIA, SPAIN and TURKEYEach school did research on works of art of their own countries relevant to the communication of universal values. The selected works were placed in context, which supposed a review of the historical and social background of the period of their creation, to facilitate their understanding to the other schools.Firstly, a study was carried out, therefore, on those national creations that convey concepts, ideas and universal values (peace, solidarity, brotherhood, equality, dialogue, tolerance, friendship, freedom, justice, happiness, joy of life, labour...), and once the study was completed and conveniently prepared, was presented to the other partners in form of teaching units or lessons, in two ways printed and digitalized. As a second step and upon agreement of all partners, those works of art that represent the values that formed the European Union were highlighted. All the work performed during the two years has been structured in teaching units or lessons, the contents of which were the artistic creations that communicate the proposed concept, idea or value in the field of painting, music or sculpture. Each teaching unit was completed with activities to ensure that the objectives of the project were achieved, and translated to English to be used by the partnership to educate in values. Finally, the teaching units were developed by the students in workshops along the school year at each school, and also during the scheduled meetings in the participant schools.
