Beyond Boundaries
Date du début: 1 janv. 2016, Date de fin: 30 juin 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The exchange project, "Beyond Boundaries" aims to reply to two requests:1) The request from a group of young people from Turnhout who have already produced several animated projects at KIDSCAM and who have explicitly asked for a follow-up in an international context.2) The desire of the organisations - YOUNG DOGS and KIDSCAM - to share their knowledge, skills and methods of working with young people and realise innovative projects together over the longer term in the context of a strategic partnership. "Beyond Boundaries" wants to be a part of this and act as an "experimental space" in which the supervisors of both organisations can start work in an immediate interaction with their target group, namely young people between 16 and 20 years of age, on the theme of boundaries, and produce a movie together that mixes documentary and animation. The target group will consist of 10 young people from the Dortmund region in Germany, of which 3 young people are refugees, and 10 young people from the Turnhout region in Belgium, of which 2 young people are refugees. The exchange project will take place in the two countries: between 28 February & 5 March in Dortmund and between 24 May & 30 May in Turnhout. Stories will play a central role in the "Beyond Boundaries" project - initially listening to stories by investigating and exploring the theme of boundaries and secondly, telling their own story based on the results of the research. We will use the medium of film (documentary and animation) in our investigation, and to tell our story. Digital media has become an integral part of modern European society. To us, it seems essential to familiarise young people with the opportunities offered by digital media and the tools that can be used to reach out.Working towards the definition of the "boundaries" theme, the young people from Turnhout who, given the social reality all around them, ask themselves questions about this and want to be intensely involved in a film project. The involvement of young refugees seemed to be an obvious choice here. Effective collaboration can result in us coming together as people and breaking down stereotypes. All aspects of producing a film involve teamwork: young people learn many social skills. Furthermore, the result of the process and the collaboration is tangible - it is a film with our own name on it, which builds confidence. It provides us with the opportunity to broaden our horizon as a creator of an artistic product. This will allow us to actively contribute to the public debate in a unique and creative way.We want to present the film that is produced through the project and the associated production process to organisations in youth work, the broader socio-cultural and artistic field, and to organisations and other interested media that are concerned with refugees. The film will also be sent to international film festivals for young filmmakers. We assume this project will lead to new production methods that we would like to cast in an appropriate form of work and to implement in our own work (by combining technology and mixing young people), and we also want to expose the work elsewhere by showing it to associations and at film festivals. If we want to do this thoroughly, a lot of time and effort will be required. To increase the impact of the exchange project, we hope to realise the follow-up as an organisation in the context of a strategic partnership.
