The Berufskolleg Wirtschaft und Verwaltung Siegen-Wittgenstein (vocational college for business and administration) realised the project “Work Placements in Europe“ in the years 2014 to 2016. The mobility project had the target to give as many students as possible the possibility to do a work placement abroad in the course of their vocational trainings. In the course of this project the Berufskolleg in Siegen cooperated with partners in London (GB), Valencia(E) and Kokkola (FIN). The partners were two exchange agencies (ADC College London; ESMOVIA Valencia) and a partner school in Finland. In this project 58 participants were supported, 56 students and two accompanying teachers. The students were either in dual vocational training programs, which combine on-the-job training and courses at school, or they took part in school training courses enabling them to get the entrance qualification for studying at universities of applied studies plus certifying advanced vocational skills. The activities differed referring to the countries as follows: In Spain the participating students started with a one-week language course, followed by a three-weeks work placement. In Finland the participants did a four-weeks work placement and in England they started again with a one-week language course followed by a two-weeks work placement. In the course of their stays abroad the participants could remarkably broaden and deepen their language, intercultural and personal skills. They especially improved their foreign language skills and abilities, particularly in the field of oral language competences regarding personal daily routine or professional situations. They got authentic impressions of the daily life and working environment of the countries they visited. The Berufskolleg Wirtschaft und Verwaltung in Siegen could strengthen its profile as a European school in Northrhine-Westphalia and expand the network with international partners.
