Belgian and UK Sea scouts meet each other
Date du début: 1 mai 2016, Date de fin: 31 oct. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Sea scouting enables youngsters (6-18) to meet each other on a regular basis . Through sailing and rowing members learn to define their objectives and to take decisions. Only by teamwork objectives can be achieved. Initiative and responsibility are the main requirements out on the water. Sea scouting is a worldwide movement .Nevertheless is it not so obvious to go abroad and meet foreign sea scouts groups. Flemish 1ste Zeescouts Georges the Hasque was founded in 1916. To celebrate their 100th anniversary they dream to go back to their roots during their 2016 summer camp. Southampton in UK was selected as camp location and 25th Southampton sea scouts has become an enthusiastic partner in the ‘Sea scouts meet each other’ 6-days exchange project. Although sea scouts worldwide have common roots , the current Belgian and British groups behave differently but also similarly. Both partners intend to provide an international learning experience for their members aged between 14 and 18 and their leaders mostly aged between 19 and 25. All participants have sea scouting back ground and all demonstrated an interest in intercultural exchange. The learning outcomes of the project to be achieved are team work and coordination, active participation, communication in foreign languages, improving planning skills, time management, conflict management, evaluation of the own competencies and behavior, cultural awareness and expression and better understanding of different cultures. Through selected activities where ships and teamwork are omnipresent, 35 Belgian and 22 British youngsters will be encouraged to discuss , collaborate and become familiar with youngsters from a different social, cultural and geographical background. This will strengthen the international ties between European youth and give the participants of both groups the opportunity to learn about different cultures and especially different types of scouting. All activities are selected to enhance cultural, personal and nautical exchange and will need teamwork, knowledge and skills to be accomplished. These activities will improve a stronger sense of responsibility and will create valuable and sustainable relationships with youngsters from another European country. These relationships will not only enhance participants personal development, but will result in a qualitative and improved cooperation between Belgian and English Sea Scouts as well. This could result in a more general European collaboration between more countries in the future. The intercultural dimension of this exchange project will make participants become familiar with foreign culture .It will make them look positively to intercultural dialogue and will help to prevent prejudices towards foreign cultures. It will improve tolerance and acceptance of cultural difference. The results of the project will be communicated in the Belgian and UK scouting magazine .Facebook pages of both partners will keep the general public up to date with stories and photos of the exchange. On national Belgian and UK Scouts Conference and international Eurosea Conference the project and its results will be displayed to the wider scouting public. This European collaboration is a challenge for the participants and will help young members and current leaders to become more responsible and comprehensive Scouts Leaders with a broad European mind-set. The collaboration will strengthen the European network of Sea Scouts and will encourage future exchange. In each country the game of scouting brought people from all classes, gender and race together. Both partners want to take this game, with the help of Erasmus + to a next step to unite European Sea Scouts across borders and to develop friendships and links that continue beyond the exchange. Our worldwide scoutingmotto : BE PREPARED perfectly fits this exchange project.
