PROJET
TERMINÉ
As a result of our participation in the refresher course we hope to create an added value in the following areas:Future Young EntrepreneursThis project is a cooperation with the German Goethe-Institut, which actually runs this whole project. When it comes to founding a company, there is hardly any country in Europe with a youth as uninterested as the German one. There are however other EU and non-EU states that also demonstrate a lot of scepticism. Surveys showed that more than 70% of young people did not want to become an entrepreneur. We try to counteract this development by offering our pupils hands-on experience. The project is comprised of two phases. The theoretical preparation phase provides students with the necessary know-how on developing ideas (design thinking) and writing business plans, on intercultural communication in business contexts and on presentation techniques (pitching) in three workshops. Partner companies (mentors) accompany the further development of the students’ business plans after the first workshop has taken place. If possible, the students also participate in a digital business simulation. The 20 students participating are in grade 10 or 11. Not only being fond of the English language but also showing huge interest in economics made them the perfect candidates for this project. The best ten students of each country then compete in the second phase of the project with their individual business plans. The projects runs for two years (1st of March 2015 – 28th of February 2017) and is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. Exchange ProgramThe exchange program with the UK wants to give our students the opportunity to take part in a second school exchange – next to the already established one with France. The students should be given the possibility to improve their communication skills, get an insight into English culture and everyday life as well as to get in touch with young people from other EU states. Aim of this project is to individually improve the students’ communication skills and the teachers' English lessons, to enhance the mission statement of our school and last but not least to establish a close partnership between the two schools. Four English teachers are responsible for this project. Currently there is a system of pen pals established between the students of the English school and those of our school, who are allowed to take part in the exchange next year. The exchange is going to last one week and the students are supposed to live with their pen pal’s family in order to get to know the country, its culture and its people better. Next to taking part in English lessons in Halifax there are also going to be various trips planned by the English school as well as the German teachers. Keeping contact with the English teachers and students could be put into practice with the help of eTwinning.German Language Course for Minor RefugeesThe project was started as about 50 male minors were placed into accommodation facilities next to our school. As we want to help these young men to learn the German language and to enable them to get a place in a German vocational school, fourteen teachers of our school provide lessons on a voluntary basis. This German course takes place four times a week and is also attended by a number of voluntary pupils, who help the refugees with their exercises. We hope that this project can establish a long-term education for these refugees, that enables them to be fully integrated in our community. The aim of all the projects is first of all to improve our students' language skills and their motivation for studying a language through personal contact with students from other countries. Moreover we want to enhance our students' cultural awareness and help them become responsible and open-minded. In addition to that with FYE we want to give our students the possibility to gain experience in founding one's own company and thus reducing anxieties about entrepreneurship.
