Becoming a journalist in Europe: a bridge between traditional and new media
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

BEJOUR is a short teaching programme in the field of European Union communication, involving academics, experts of old and new media environments, journalists and representatives of the multilateral world of the European Union (e.g.: members of the European and Italian Parliaments; Commissioners and Commission officers, mainly in the area of communication). It comprises 40 teaching hours per academic year, aiming at providing both a fundamental knowledge on how to deal with the European institutions and a complete toolbox for communicating Europe and European Union issues too, thanks to a really continuous newsmaking exercise each student will do in a team dimensional training. The students' outputs, consisting of articles published on a daily newspaper (Metro) and on a platform specialised in European issues (Euractiv.it), as well as of radio services broadcasted by RadioSapienza, are expected to demonstrate students' ability of integrating their knowledge of the EU system into the journalistic practise. Presently, students of journalism and media studies at Sapienza University of Rome do not receive any specifically EU-oriented training. The same happens in almost all other Italian universities. This is an educational failure that needs to be mended, considering that professionals in the media field are those who have the greatest influence on public opinion and may concretely enhance the public awareness of the European Union. Thanks to BEJOUR, Sapienza University of Rome – particularly its Departments Co.Ri.S. - may become a leading institution in this field. Students' awareness of the EU will be also enhanced by mean of a yearly study visit in Brussels/Strasbourg. BEJOUR intends to challenge an "Italian media inattention" towards Europe trying to foster the introduction of a European visual angle into the Italian journalism, with a special regard to young professionals and to trainees aspiring to start a career in the field of media.
