Be different be tolerant

The idea of the project "Be different, be tolerant" came from a group of young people and youth leaders from partner organisations in Chojna (Poland), Susice (Czech Republic), Koszeg (Hungary) and Konya (Turkey). Problems connected with xenophobia, racism, lack of tolerance and speech of hate concern equally young Europeans from every part of the continent.The aim of the "Be different, be tolerant" project is to make its participants and other people indirectly involved in the project aware of need of tolerance towards cultural diversity, mores, religion and race. It is not possible to avoid facing them in contemporary Europe."Be different, be tolerant" project also aims at:- integrating Czech, Hungarian, Turkish and Polish youth,- getting to know inhabitants' opinion about refugees in local communities,- acquiring the abilities of being assertive towards people presenting xenophobic or racist opinions,- promoting attitudes based on tolerance and openness,- increasing organisational skills among project participants.There will be a youth exchange for 32 young participants aged 16-18 in the "Be different, be tolerant" project. Each partner organisation will send 8 participants and 2 adult leaders. There will be an equal number of women and men in the project.Participants of the exchange will get to know the opinions of the inhabitants of their towns about refugees, they will find out the methods of conducting the surveys and analysing their results. They will also learn about customs of countries of different cultural background, discuss the taboo topics in their countries.Methods typical for non formal education will be used during the exchange: workshops led by participants, integration games, interviews, discussions, role plays, presentations, pantomime, talks, individual and group work. Some of the activities will be organized with participation of representatives of local community.Participants of the project will prepare a newsletter and a presentation of the project. The report based on the survey of inhabitants of Chojna, Koszeg, Konya and Susice opinions about refugees will be written, presentations about cultural customs of Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey will be prepared and the list of taboo topics of project partner countries will be done.The organisers of the project presume that the participants of the project will increase their competences and skills in the areas such as preparing the questionnaire for the survey, preparing evaluation forms and presentations, organising and leading workshops about tolerance and openness, acting against xenophobia and racism, improving organisation skills. Young participants of the project will learn from each other, draw conclusions and evaluate their own activities.Partner organisations are considering futher cooperation in the form of strategic partnership.
