«H2O» – Associação de Jovens de Arrouquelas / Youth Association of Arrouquelas presents an EVS project called «Be Active, Be Creative" that will take place in Arrouquelas – Portugal, between 1st of August 2013 and 1st of August 2014. This long term project will have 12 months of duration and we would like to receive 4 volunteers from different countries. The participants must be over 18 and the official languages of the project will be English and Portuguese. The aim of this EVS project is to receive 4 youngsters, from different European countries and to give them the opportunity to know our country, our culture and our volunteer work that we do in our organization that we do in Arrouquelas, a small rural village. These volunteers will participate in our local community, helping children to develop themselves and to integrate them with the older population. In Arrouquelas, the biggest part of the population is elder people, so we want that these volunteers create a bigger interaction between young and old people, we want to help break the isolation of orders, situation that happens in rural areas. The volunteers will be divided in four different spaces (one week in each Institution), but they will develop a work together. During one week, one of them will work at «H2O»’s headquarter, taking care of our children, after school time, developing with them funny and pedagogical activities. They will also create trainings and workshops for young people in general. Another one will work in a Social Institution that helps old people. Another volunteer will work in the Kindergarten of Rio Maior, where he/she will develop some pedagogical activities with the children. And another one will develop an educational project related with social inclusion with the disable people of a Social Institution in Rio Maior - «O Ninho - Centro de Educação Especial». This Institution works with young and adult disable people that have big social problems and our Association has a partnership with them, in order that we can collaborate in several activities. This project has as main objective to combat discrimination and loneliness that these people are subject. The volunteers can promote a bigger interaction and cooperation between all these Institutions and their target-groups. They can as well promote their own activities with their own ideas, bring something new to our work and contribute with good vibrations, during the time that they will stay in H2O. In a general way, this EVS project has as main theme the communication and the education, because they will create several ways of communication between the association and our young people, and they will also develop ways of training them. We would like to use non-formal educational methods: explore the creativity of youngsters; energizers; group dynamics; discuss; posters; workshops; make questionnaires to apply to the local community; create new social projects. We wish to be more demanding in the sense of involving more intensively our target-group, so that this project can provide a true volunteer service to the community, including groups previously referenced. Concerning the social and the economic needs of several families in this region, we will work with the Municipality of Rio Maior (our County) in a domiciliary support programme for families in need and the elderly who live alone, helping in their life activities and routines and other areas that we can identify.
