Bradford College has a strong commitment to expand its international activity across the curriculum areas through its internationalisation strategy. The strategy addresses Bradford College's four main challenges when it comes to internationalisation: the need to improve staff and students' language competences, students and staff' low awareness of international opportunities, lack of diverse curriculum to prepare its students for the global labour market, and low engagement with use of Europass. The College also faces the big challenge of designing and delivering online courses due to increasing local labour market demands. The BC VET individual mobility project has two parts: two staff from The Department of Business Computing and Creative Technologies will visit Staatliches Seminar für Didaktik und Lehrerbildung (Berufliche Schulen) Karlsruhe (a vocational training provider in Germany) in September 2016 for two days and two other staff from The Department of Business Computing and Creative Technologies will visit Tampere Vocational College Tredu (a vocational training provider in Finland) in March 2017 for two days. During the visit, participants will share their best practice with their colleagues in the partner organisations and learn at least one new method which can be adopted in their teaching. They will also discuss the possibility of establishing an online learning platform for staff and students to share learning and teaching resources. The participants will gain knowledge of how partner colleges use Europass in their Erasmus+ mobility. This activity aims at to share good practice through the use of tools that promote and enhance independent learning as well as strategies for implementation. Teaching and learning technologies and strategies such as gamification, virtual learning environments, social media, flipped & blended learning, core online learning and assessment will be key themes. Bradford College will provide preparation to participants in line with European Quality Charter for Mobility, Learning Agreement, Quality Commitment, and Agreement between two institutions. A preparation team will be set up to make every effort to ensure all participants are fully prepared for their mobility. The preparation team will include Bradford College International Office team member, Erasmus+ Coordinator from partner institution, placement officer from partner institution, programme areas tutor/member of academic staff for learner participants, and programme manager for staff participants. By practicing the target language with colleagues from partner organisation, participants will be able to raise staff and students' interests of learning another European language hence improving their language competency. The result of the mobility will encourage all college staff and students to undertake international mobility in the future. By undertaking work shadowing and class observation, participants will be able to learn from colleagues how to use new technology and teaching method. The participants will escalate the technology and method in the College which will contribute to develop more distance learning courses. By sharing learning and teaching materials with partner organisations, Bradford College will increase diversity in its curricula.With increasing staff and students' language competences and awareness of international opportunities, The College will keep working on gaining more international opportunities to provide them the chances of going global. If this application is successful, the College will gain more experience on how to maximise the impact of staff and student mobility. For the next step, The College would like to focus on sending students to take part in work placements and staff to deliver training in partner organisations. The chance to observe and monitor students’ vocational training in partner countries can help the staff identify the skill gaps between the home students’ abilities and the demands of the global labour market. The staff will be able to provide valuable suggestions and opinions to develop the curriculum and skill building in Bradford College. This will improve the average level of the whole college's students' skills and employability.
