Baltic Youth influencing Transport Policies (BAYinTRAP)

Project seeks to create opportunities for active involvement of young city citizens into process of sustainable urban transport policy development. This can be achieved by creating and testing youth participative planning model for transport policies and future transport systems.Social engagement in entire urban planning domain is insufficient and neglected by those who are in power of making decisions on urban transport.Regional and local authorities are continually executing new EU transport policies but leave no margin for public commitment. European communities have an absolute right to influence policy making process and to be a contributing partner in discussion on various mobility aspects in their cities.In order to obtain these ambitious goals,the dialogue with decision makers and relevant actors have to be established first.Past european experiences show that youth can be the most efficient and commited social group pushing awareness rising process ahead and acting as a great medium in communication with the rest of the society.Youth can provide genuine testimonial of accession to transport issues and become successful multipliers for the message of clean and sustainable transport policies.Therefore, project will take an adventage on youngsters' creativity, enthusiasm and often useful critical approach to some of the encountered problems and use it to generate extensive discussion of road safety, accessibility and various improvements in urban traffic systems with policy makers,road and traffic engineers, urban planners as well as expert researchers.The aim is to have youth remarks, ideas and request for changes to be considered and resulting in feedback in strategies and adjustments in urban policy development and implementation,oriented at mobility requirements of young city citizens.If youth is addressed in a proper manner they can take an active part in policy development clearly stating mobility needs and other ideas about clean and sustainable urban transport but there has to be clear vision for installing direct dialogue and communication platform for both parties.To cope with this chellenge project wants arrange series of summer camps involving school youth to take part in urban cycling rides exploring and investigating urban space.Youth will jointly conduct urban research concerning aspects of accessibility, traffic safety, missing elements of urban infrastructure, poor communication solutions and other relevant reflections that they may have on existing traffic realm in their cities.Information collected will serve youngsters to present their proposals for changes in the context of urban transport using various youth like manner means of data presentation.Each summer camp envisages on site meeting,identifies and involves polticians, administration and other stakeholder representatives who are going to familiarize with youngsters' reflections, listen and act when addressed by youth. Achievements: Partners have agreed to the idea of the Project and preliminary activity plan. Budget planning tool for partners’ budget estimations has been developed. Project application form was submitted to JTS and accepted. Clarification process was finalized. Kick off meeting took place in Szczecinek. Subsidy Contract and Partnership Agreement have been signed. Basic decision in regard of Summer Camps were made.The next project meeting has been set to August 27, 2013 in Greifswald.A new time plan, frameework for the summer camps has been agreed on, postponing summer camps to summer 2014. In addition to the workplan, an addional idea about a competition plan has been elaborated.Further an agenda for method workshop has been prepared. Due to the postponment of the summer camp, the timeplan for project activities and the budget plan for each partner has been adjusted because of the changed acitivity plan.PR2During the second semester of the project all the basic products identifying project were preoduced: (1) project logo has been developed, (2) project website is operating, (3) first newsletter has been produced and delivered to recipients, (4) poster informing about the competition has been produced. Also BAYinTRAP project was presented during the European Cooperation Day 2013 - SouthBalticRegion on 18th of September 2013 in Gdańsk and during panel discussion - part of the Active Mobility Congress taking place on 12th - 13th of September in Gdańsk. Summer camsp workshop took place in Greifswald in August 2013. All aspects of S.C. were discussed; the dates of S.C. were established, number of participants and methodology. It was decided that as part of promotion and information about S.C. the competition will be organized in Spring 2014. The topic of the competition - sustainable transport. Rules and regulations of the competition were developed.Every 2 - 4 weeks a Skype conference takes place; representatives of all partners participate; current problems are being discussed and necessary decisions are made. PPR 1 was prepared after partners delivered their reports and FLC Certificates and in the wake of delivery of PPR1 to JTS clarification process re PPR1 with JTS has been conducted.During the third semester few activities in the area of PR were concluded: (1) Project website is operating,(2) Newletters No2 and 3 were produced and distributed and (3) BAYinTRAP featured in Baltic Transport Journal 3/2014. Competitions with the topic of sustainable transport were announced and decided. Participants of Summer Camps were selected and first meetings with them took place. During the Project meeting in Klaipeda final decisions regarding Summer Camps were made - agendas, methodology, recreational program. Skype conferences were continued (every 2 - 4 weeks).PPR 2 was prepared after partners delivered their reports and FLC Certificates and in the wake of delivery of PPR2 to JTS clarification process re PPR2 with JTS has been conducted.
