“Back to the Future: Future of education is (also) looking at the past”

"Back to the Future" is an EVS project conceived and promoted by three not for profit organizations from Italy, France and Lithuania active at local and European level on youth policies through the use of non formal education as a key driver for personal, social and intercultural growth. Ferfilò, Curiositas and Eurocircle strongly believe in the necessity of promotion of Non-Formal education among youngsters, children and educators, considering NFE as a cornerstone of life long learning process. Main objective of the project is to offer to 2 EVS volunteers a 10 months learning experience based on the implementation of a participative working model through experiental approach, bringing community innovation and promoting non formal education.Through this project volunteers will have the chance to learn by doing, empowering their softs skills, approaching non formal education techniques and learn and practice teaching methods based on an experiential and creative approach. Service activities will be held in Cento, Italy, a municipality of 35.000 inhabitants with an active young population composed by 15.000 young people . Together with the Hosting youth Association Ferfilò, volunteers will co-design and implement non formal laboratories for children and youngsters, they will support senior educators in after school creative actitivies, laboratories regarding active citizenship and social inclusion, artistic labs with the aim to develop the 8 key learning competences. Volunteers will also organize, together with peers, cultural events in order to promote Youth active participation in civic life. EVS volunteers will have the opportunity to develop new inititatives starting from their own background, skills, cultural features. We expect volunteers to be be open-minded European youngsters with curiosity for new intercultural contexts and peer to peer experiences in a lively and young hosting context.Concrete projects results will be fostering the importance of non formal learning as a chance for youth and community development and spreading the EVS values between youngsters and education stakeholders (professors, educators etc.). At local and European level this project will spread the concept of non formal education as a pillar for individual and social growth, and will contribute to share best practices regarding NF education at a European level.Impacts and longer term benefits will positively affect EVS volunteers as future actors of local communities' growth, European youth organizations with a more concrete capacity of managing youth mobility and last but not least local stakeholders such as schools, public authorities and other associations in their knowledge and awareness about the positive values of European Mobility and Erasmus + opportunities given to youth for personal and social development.
