Az idegen nyelvi képzés módszertani megújulása a Siófoki Perczel Mór Gimnáziumban

The title of the Erasmus+ KA1 mobility project in Sófoki Perczel Mór Gimnázium is Refreshing Methodology of Foreign Language Education in Siófoki Perczel Mór Gimnázium. The background of the project - The leading profile of the school is teaching foreign languages: there is a programme of dual language education in German, there are advanced level English classes, while Russian and French are offered as second foreign languages. The results of the language subjects are remarkable: the students successfully pass B2/C1 level language exams and ordinary and advanced level secondary final exams in English and German. There is one group of students studying Russian. Due to the growing demand in studying languages, the school has been a regular participant in European projects including mobility as well as strategic cooperation programmes. The main objective of the current project is the methodological refreshment of the foreign language education in Perczel Mór Gimnázium.
The two colleagues taking part in the project have long experience and inevitable results in their jobs, in addition, they have already carried out European mobility programmes / cooperations several times. Ms Erika Németh has been teaching English (as a foreign language) for 28 years, she has been an examiner at advanced level secondary final exams for 11 years. By applying for a teacher refresher training course she wishes to acquire a new results-based, student-centred approach that includes integrated development of productive and receptive language skills, effective use of interactive online teaching materials and activity-based teaching procedures. Mrs Zsuzsa Fogarassy Orczy teaches German at levels A1-C1 as well as history in German in dual language classes. She also has experience as a language examiner and qualified special translator in German. She applied for a foreign training course in order to improve effectiveness of language education, methods to develop and diagnose skills level and cooperative learning techniques.
Accomplished activities: Stage 1: preparing for mobilities abroad, establishing contact with the training organisations, checking training programmes, accomplishing mobilities - Fogarassyné Orczy Zsuzsa – date, venue: 2015.08.03-15. Düsseldorf, Germany, organisation: Institut für Internationale Kommunikation, course title: Fortbildungssommer 2 Wochen: Intensivsprachkurs Deutsch und Methodentraining in der Unterrichtspraxis Deutsch als Fremdsprache-, Németh Erika - date, venue: 2015.09.20-2015.10.03. Daugavpils, Latvia, organisation: Учебный центр LatInSoft, a course title Теоретические и практические аспекты преподавания русского языка как иностранного. Stage 2: giving an account of mobilities at staff / language department meetings, training workshops for language teachers, consultation, dissemination, multiplicator activities, experiences/ contributions are included in planning (lesson plans, unit plans). Stage 3: follow-up, classroom observation and follow-up conversation, consultation, reviewing / evaluating /correcting results. Stage 4: ensuring sustainability, results will be included in yearly planning, accomplishment, feed-back.
Results / effects of the project: methodological diversity has improved, education has become more effective, attitude is changing: cooperative learning techniques (project-work, pair-work, group-work) are getting more frequent among teachers, more focus has been put on diagnostic and formative assessment as well as individual student development; results-based attitude has become more widespread. There is a positive change in teamwork and communication in staff. The level in all language lessons has become better not only in German and Russian. Cooperation and achievements of the language departments, sharing good practices have had a motivating effect on the rest of the staff generating healthy competition. The project has contributed to the accomplishment of the European Development Plan at the organisation. It has also established contacts creating a good base for participating in international cooperation in education. Measurable effects: students’ results at secondary final exams and language exams show qualitative and quantitative improvement. Long-term effects: Erasmus+ KA1 project also contributes to other long-term objectives such as improved school climate / culture, development of innovation skills at the organisation and implementing the management programme, which make our school competitive and effective in the world of education.
