PROJET
TERMINÉ
The Paul-Spiegel-Berufskolleg (PSB) has been granted the German title “Europaschule“ in 2007 as it has enabled students, with the help of the Leondardo da Vinci- program, to gain work experience in neighbouring foreign countries since 2003. It is a project intended to be serving the interests of the whole school and has been developed further continuously. Enlarging the project is one of the goals we hope to achieve with the new Erasmus+ program.
Particularly interested and suited students and apprentices of the PSB were and still are supposed to be enabled to get to know the world of work in another European country, increase their theoretical knowledge and their jobwise skills as well as their command of different languages. Within the last years, the experiences have shown that the participants had better chances to get a job and to develop their personality.
Besides its economic focus, the PSB also promotes students with a technical, commercial, health and socio-pedagogical orientation. The program is intended to be open for all students attending an eligible course of education. This year’s 122 participants were able to gain important experiences during the internships which met the individual needs of the respective course of study. The new Ave-Erasmus program can be regarded as an innovation of the previous project. Besides being a German acronym, Ave is also Latin for “be greeted”. In Spanish the word is also used to refer to a big bird and a high speed train. Values like flexibility and mobility are therefore covered by the selected acronym.
The AVE program contains three different modules: Ave-flow, Ave-individual and Ave-Canarias. In all three cases the PSB is the applying and responsible organisation.
There were six different partner organisations which hosted the students during this year’s program. These partners were located in Austria, England, Hungary, Ireland, Italy and Spain. The duration of the internship was from September till October, including the autumn break. The overall duration of the stay was four weeks. Unfortunately, no students were interested in completing a work experience in Hungary. Therefore, the PSB will not include the Hungarian partner in the new application. For all other countries the number of applicants exceeded the offered number of possible work placements.
The PSB and its partners organized the flight, transfer, internship, accommodation, language course and a cultural program for the students. The internships were selected to fit the students’ course of study. This module was equal to the one that had been carried out over the past few years, except for the fact that an Italian partner was included. Apart from the partner in Italy all other host organisations were well known. Nevertheless, the partner in Sicily proved to be very reliable and qualified and will therefore remain one of the PSB’s international partners. With this module the PSB intended to serve the special interests and needs of the students
Within the Ave-individual module the students organised everything themselves. The PSB just checked the application and the chosen company and supported the students whenever necessary. The departure was possible throughout the whole year and its duration varied depending on the students’ needs. However, both had to be discussed and specified in detail. As this module had been completely new at the PSB there were only three students taking part in it. However, it can be expected that more students will choose this kind of work placement in the future.
Last but not least, the Ave-Canarias module cooperates with a well-known partner on the Canary Islands and offers internships in high-class hotels. This year, the jobs assigned were again depending on the students’ course of education. Even hairdressers or carpenters are normally just as welcome as commercial apprentices or students who can work at the reception or in the back office. Future pre-school teachers or nurturers are usually needed for animation tasks. The duration of this internship is five weeks and includes three and a half weeks of the summer break.
Most of the students who took part in this program were commercial or educational students.
The major goal of our AVE-project was and still is to support the individual student. Due to our wide range of offers we were able to focus on the individual needs and interests of each student.
