Since 2011 the Vocational School Papenburg (Berufsbildende Schulen Papenburg) has a very successful exchange of traineeships with the IES Puerta Oscura in Málaga. Each year we send four apprentices in banking to Spain to train business conversation and conflict management in a foreign language and environment. During the three years we have learnt that internships in stores, hotels and restaurants are best for these purposes as they offer the best opportunities to train these skills. The students have plenty of contacts with Spanish and foreign customers. After the three weeks training the intercultural abilities and the language skills have improved a lot. After the very positive feedback of students and banks we decided to set up a second project for dental nurses. This profession has changed a lot as they have more and more foreign clients. We have found a partner in Malta (PARAGON Europe) who will set up a one week language training and a two week internship for our students. In 2014 a local shipyard (Meyer Werft) established a cooperation with a finish shipyard (Meyer Turku). Now we have two enterprises (UPM Nordland Papier + UPM-Kymmene Oyj) with daughter companies or mother companies in Finland. To facilitate the work between these companies we want to offer apprentices in IT from these companies a traineeship in Finland. We hope that all three projects will encourage even more of our students to welcome new intercultural experiences in Germany and abroad.
