Augsim savam novadam

The objectives of the project ‘Augsim savam novadam’, implemented by youth organization ‘Latvijas Mazpulki’, was to facilitate a structured dialogue among rural youth, local authorities, and decision-makers in the area of youth related issues in order to encourage youth to develop new skills and realize their contribution to the development of their local municipalities, as well as to improve the awareness of rural youth needs among the local municipalities’ representatives. Moreover, the project aims to stimulate the youth to partake in activities that are more beneficial to their local municipalities, to inspire municipalities to support the work and ideas of rural youth, and to create good conditions for the possible creation of new youth organizations in other local schools, youth centers, or elsewhere. The project activities included the preparation and training of 120 youth representatives and discussions between rural youth and decision-makers in 8 different Latvian municipalities (Krāslava, Daugavpils, Priekule, Talsi, Dobele, Tukums, Smiltene, Alūksne district). The project also included the realization of ‘Augsim savam novadam’ conference in Riga, which will gather municipalities’ representatives, youth workers, youth organization leaders and youth from all Latvia . As a result of the project, the municipalities take more into account the interests of rural youth, seeing the youth as resource, both, now and in the future. As a result of the fruitful discussions, the municipalities’ decision-makers recognize the potential of rural areas in the future and are aware that there exists youth, that wishes to operate in rural areas, thus, it is important to draw attention to future adjustments (infrastructure, education system) of rural areas. After the discssions youth represantatives adjudicates that they feel more important citizens, and can influence the as a result of the meetings and structured dialogue, the youth would choose to link their future with their own local municipalities, thus contributing to their development. As a part of the closing conference, the decision-makers from different municipalities will share their ideas of how to successfully develop and collaborate with youth organizations.
