Auditing the Sustainability of Public Spaces
Date du début: 1 déc. 2009,
ASPIS is a follow up to the LdV PICT project, that produced training material to help citizens and planners to engage in dialog, using IT for the representation of plans with an interactive component allowing citizens to understand urban design better and make comments. ASPIS will create learning products for public participation in planning in two further ways: first by introducing sustainability as a core concept in the participation process, helping learners to asses plans against a list of sustainable space criteria; second by creating innovative learning tools based on a GBL approach, which allows learners to recognize the"stakeholders" in the evaluated plans, participate in simulated negotiation process, play roles, argue for the best "sustainable" solution. Project outputs include: a best practice review for selecting sustainability criteria; a methodology for formal and non-formal learning; a GBL tool complemented by other learning practices accompanied by a Handbook; integrated learning products for professional planners, the wider public and schools/universities; action groups and national workshops for networking in all partner countries; a mid-term e-conference; an end-of-project conference; dissemination activities through www.aspis-learn.eu. 9 partners from 7 EU countries ensure a multi-cultural, interdisciplinary approach, with most outcomes appearing in 7 languages. The impact envisaged concerns the wider benefits related to the sustainable development of cities and the improvement of town planning practices as well as democratic governance at local level through public participation in planning. The learning impact also relates to improving the competences of urban design and planning professionals; empowering urban inhabitants to influence the shape and use of their immediate environment; introducing innovative tools and pedagogies in school/university curricula; making learning more attractive and relevant to real life situations.
