Askel kohti Eurooppaa - opettajien täydennyskoulutus koulujen kansainvälistymisen tukena
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Background: Since 2011 the international team of Turku Education Division has been responsible for the international affairs of basic education schools. The international activities of the schools have been surveyd for the last four years. Some of the 39 schools have a lot of international activities, some of them have nearly nothing. The international team has now started to develop the international operations of the basic education schools. According to the strategic policy, all the schools should have equal opportunities to internationalization, regardless e.g. language or international skills of the principals. Reason for the absence of international activities may also be bureaucracy and lack of knowledge. Objectives: The objective of this project is to support schools which are on the verge of internationalization. The point is to help schools without any prior international experience to start international operations independently. The first step is to offer teachers continuing training courses in Europe. In this project the international team will take care of the project management and help with practical matters. The objective will be reached step by step. We start with accumulating the international experience of the teachers. Attending structured courses abroad gives teachers self-confidence to cope with foreign partners. It also gives personal contacts which help to create cooperation with schools abroad. The attitude towards internationalization at school will get more positive when there is even one teacher telling about his/her experiences. After gaining more international knowledge school may have the courage to cooperate with its friendship school or to apply for a mobility project of its own. Target group: The target group is 16 teachers/school staff who will attend a structured course in the field of their own expertise in Europe. Majority of the mobilities concern teachers, ie. class teachers, special class teachers and subject teachers. The aim is to improve international skills of all teachers, not just language teachers. Activities: - Informing the principals of the project funding - Arranging a breafing to the principals - Informing the staff of the schools about the application procedure, applications and processing - Choice of the mobility staff and informing all the applicants - Pre-departure orientation for all staff planning their mobilities - Travel arrangements, implementation of the mobilities and feedback conversations - Joint dissemination seminar - Reporting Methodology: The international team of the Education Division will coordinate this project. It takes care of the practical travel arrangements, handles the project management, runs the pre-departure orientation and organizes the dissemination seminar. The teachers will have to choose an appropriate course for themselves, communicate with the course organizer, search for new possible partners and make the report. Results and impact: As a result of this project the schools in Turku, as well pupils, will get international skills equally, regardless of the principal or the city district. Teachers get new ideas for school teaching. Their language skills improve and they are more willing to use them. Teachers get new international friends and connections which help them to build relationships to foreign schools. Teachers will get new viewpoints of many things, such as digital skills, CLIL teaching, functionality, multiculturalism and outdoor teaching. The schools will be pushed to internationalization when teachers after their mobilities tell about their experiences and spread the enthusiasm to their non-mobile colleagues and pupils. The pupils will internationalize at school and benefit from their teacher whose attitudes towards internationalization are positive. In the long term the schools involved with this project will participate in international projects, maintain relationships with their foreign partner schools ja disseminate international knowledge through the whole school.
