In combination with the PRISTIMAT project, the partners develop a non-destructive characterisation methodfor materials with a high added value, primarily for the transport sector, but also for other sectors,such as plastics processing or foundry. An example of high added-value materials are surface coatings forparts, instruments or structures. Understanding these surfaces and their characteristics is key to the developmentof surface materials.Using ultrasonic sensors (IDT), the properties of surfaces and their evolution during operation can beanalysed without damaging or destroying the material. The new sensors with an additional functionality– flexibility – enable the characterisation of coatings on parts with complex shapes. With this research oncoated materials and non-destructive control technique, the partners meet a demand expressed by severalBelgian and French companies.
