Archipelago Folk Song Tour 2002 (Skärgårdens Visturné 2002)

The idea to carry out cultural activities in the archipelago regions in the form of folk songswas born in the middle of the 1990s. The first actual Visturné (Folk song tour) was carriedout, trough the entire archipelago region Stockholm, Åland, Åboland in 1998. The folksong tour was financially supported by, among others, the Interreg IIA -programme.As a result of the good experiences from this tour, Skärgårdens Visförbund (Thearchipelago folk song association) was formed in 1999, and applied for Interreg IIIA–financing for the project Skärgårdens visturné 2002. The aim of the project was tocontribute with a cultural depth in the world of folk songs among the local population inthe archipelago regions and to establish contacts with the cultural range and the culturalorganisations at the respective concert venues. At the same time, one wished to developa cooperation within folk musicians in the three regions. The folk song tour collaboratedwith other projects in order to attain as deep a cooperation as possible between the regions.The project gave jobs for folksingers and other cultural workers, created networksbetween different activities within cultures and supported the companies and business inthe archipelago.
