Applying EU Model to Taiwan-China Integration (EUTWCN)
Date du début: 1 sept. 2015, Date de fin: 31 août 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The EU is "the world’s first successful example of inter-state reconciliation" and thus indicative to Taiwan-China relations. This project aims to apply the EU integration model to Taiwan-China integration by promoting EU knowledge among students of National Taipei University (NTPU), Taiwan. NTPU is worth-considered for 2 reasons. First, it is one of top universities in Taiwan, and many of its graduates become decision-makers in Taiwan's political and economic life. Second, Taiwan is China's biggest investor and major trading partner and its political and economic elites engage in extensive and intensive interaction with Chinese ones, and thus have greater influences on the shaping of Taiwan-China integration. Taiwan's political and economic elites, of which NTPU graduates account for a significant part, are not only important to the country itself, but also instrumental to Taiwan-China integration and thus to the future of Asia-Pacific region. However, NTPU is short of EU teaching and research for long time, and this project is an effort to fill in this gap. It will be implemented by running two courses--"Introduction to European Integration" and "European Economic and Monetary Integration", to equip NTPU students with correct and essential understanding of the EU, and further to apply EU knowledge to Taiwan-China integration. The Project's outputs will be 270 teaching hours for consecutively 3 academic years for estimated 250 top Taiwanese students, and its outcomes will be disseminated by both public and academic approaches through lecturing; online-resource provision; public speeches and media interviews; academic publishing etc.. Its direct and immediate impact would be the enhancement of EU knowledge among top Taiwanese students. Its indirect and more long-term impact would be the contribution to the shaping of Taiwan-China integration, and thus to the future of Asia-Pacific region, as well as to the bilateral relations between Taiwan and the EU.
