I feel that this type of total immersion training does not exist in Scotland. It is always much better to reside in the country of the specific language you are learning, as it gives you the opportunity to experience the culture, food, customs and get a good feel for the natives and their language. This in turn will help me expand my knowledge and ability and be able to encourage the pupils. I feel that this goes hand in hand with the section I.1.On our school website I shall add to the ‘European Community Blog’ helping to feature my learning alongside that of the pupils. I will make contact with the local French trained teacher’s forum within the City to impart my knowledge to those who may be interested in hearing all about the course and what it involves. I will help to promote cross curricular activities through school planning to raise the profile of languages within the school. We shall celebrate the “European Day of Languages” in September. We celebrated last year through song, dance, greetings, colours and counting. Throughout the school we have a variety of different languages spoken – Lithuanian, Polish, Tagalog, French and German. In response to the Scottish Government's 1+2 Approach Report on Language Learning which aims to introduce modern languages at an early stage in line with the European language learning model Aberdeenshire Council's Primary schools will introduce a second foreign language from P1 to P7 and a third foreign language from P5 to P7. This language teaching will be fully integrated into children's learning as they progress across the curriculum. I hope that by participating in Erasmus+ this will help me create links with other teachers across Europe which can be exploited to create meaningful and lasting relationships with other language learners and enable Aberdeenshire to give a wide ranging and multi-cultural approach to 1+2 primary language learning. In line with the recommendations of the 1+2 policy schools can start to embed the target language within schools in a more natural way, on a daily basis rather than in drop in sessions. Schools will benefit from being multilingual establishments having signs in different languages and organising assemblies in target language whilst looking and building an appreciation for other countries and their music, life and culture.
