AMBER – The Rural Tourism Project

The project premises and needs analysis deal with different aspects of rural and nature-based tourism, which are being developed as alternative methods for providing employment opportunities and retain the active working population in rural areas: tourism can create new jobs and is becoming one of the main sources of income all over Europe. The project aims at developing a self learning vocational level training programme, focusing on the needs of the present and future entrepreneurs and employees in the field of rural tourism working in SMEs, regional / local development organizations, also unemployed people and women living in rural tourism territories. By creating new job opportunities and occupational areas, they can (re-)enter in a developing labour market through their vocational adaptation and economic re-integration. Also students trained in the sector of tourism can benefit from the project: the developed and adopted training materials can be integrated with the curricula of tourism schools, especially the ones participating in the project. The main modules and sub-modules of the training programme are 1) IT skills in rural tourism. Increase your entrepreneurial capacities and marketing potential, 2) Basic principles of hospitality in small scale tourism establishments, 3) Activities in rural tourism. Additional customer attraction, 3a) Tour guiding, 3b) recreational fishing, 3c) saunas in rural tourism, 3d) Tasty bits, a tapas idea. Their contents create the basic knowledge to start business and satisfying growing request for new kinds of complementary activities; all modules are available on CD-Rom and from the project website, in English and national language of partners. An innovative open source web based system is created, containing the interactive learning tutorial “How to create and publish your own web tourism website”.
