The project, “Am I a European?”, is a documentary put together by two groups of migrant youth in Amsterdam and Antwerp who got involved in their neighbourhood and decided to produce a fi lm. It gives insight to common experiences and perspectives shared by young people who are in the process of trying to get EU citizenship. The youth, who are from varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds, interviewed parents, friends, and local politicians about the changing neighbourhood and the role they could play in it. One of the main reasons why the project reaches a high acceptance among the participants is that it is not only concrete but also challenging. It also gained the attention of local decision makers who were interested in developing close contact with the migrant youth. The premiere of “Am I a European?” at a conference in Brussels is foreseen. The project is still ongoing.
