Alliance of Baltic Cities II - A City network co-operation for Local Approaches to Regional Strategies / ABC (ABC )
Date du début: 28 févr. 2003, Date de fin: 30 juil. 2007 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The objective of this project was to develop new strategies and methods for concrete action on the local level, to meet following challenges:1. Developed urban management - City renewal towards sustainability (housing, trade and industry, culture, commerce, transport, PPP);2. Cities as regional engines - Urban renewal and regional development towards functional urban regions and sustainability (demography, legacy, market, social and economic integration);3. Renewal of city districts - Reuse of coastal and central residential areas towards sustainability (economic and ecological challenges, partnership and democracy). Achievements: The ABC project has resulted in a steady network of city planners around the Baltic. For each person that has participated in the seminar the benefit has been an improved knowledge of other cities, a greater experience in working with colleagues from other countries and the knowledge achieved by working together and “learning by doing”. Also, the lectures have given a good and developed basic understanding of planning legislation, local issues, and common and relevant planning topics. Each seminar host city has benefited by receiving a great amount of work input into their local planning problems. The expert workshop groups have worked intensely to produce ideas for the host city. Inviting local stakeholders to participate in the seminars has often proved successful for the continuing planning work in the host city. For each of the seminars a report has been produced that presents the host city, some local issues and the results of the workshops. These reports have been distributed widely. Each seminar host city presented at the final seminar the results that had been achieved since their seminar. Several of the cities could show physical changes and small scale investments carried out that had been the result of the ABC seminar taking place in their city. These ‘footprints’ have been described in the final report.
