ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME

The general aim of this partnership is to offer an interactive and multidisciplinary approach to the students’ knowledge of the ROMAN HERITAGE IN OUR EVERYDAY LIFE. Raising awareness of their cultural heritage and analyzing the European past and present will help them become more conscious of their European citizenship. Improving digital literacy and communication in a second language will also increase their motivation towards learning and their knowledge of other European cultures, which will definitely help avoid early school leaving and stereotypes in our schools. The five participating schools need to improve their multidisciplinary teaching and innovation processes as well as their students’ key competences, academic achievement and motivation. The participation in this kind of project will allow a more effective teaching and learning process in the involved schools as it will increase challenge, innovation and motivation among teachers and students. It will also be a significant input to help develop key competences and help students achieve their fullest potential. The project is addressed to 12-15 - year- old students and their main task will be to do research and decide collaboratively on the contents for the SOFWARE APPLICATION FOR THE WEB, MOBILES AND TABLETS we will create to build up an imaginary 3D Roman town and compare its basic elements with our current everyday life. To build this imaginary Roman town they will gather as much information from our own towns and heritage as possible and they will be able to build it out of the knowledge they have from each one. Different subjects at each school will be involved in the project: Arts, History, Maths, Technology, Computer Science, Science and obviously English. We will establish different work lines (engineering and architecture, transport and communications, social life (family, institutions and laws), food (olive tree, wine and cereal) and traditions, entertainment (theatre, gladiators) to work with at every partner school which will be developed into teaching units. Students will work on the different topics in international teams and will take their work to the short term activity meetings, where they will share ideas and conclusions for the final outcome. They will work on different outputs (videos, historical recreations, book of recipes, PowerPoints, word glossaries, photo catalogues, a magazine) to be included in the application. They will also be uploaded to TwinSpace and the project web page which will be structured into different sections related to the project. The idea is to make a unique final product (an educational app) made up out of the collaborative work done in each partner country, representative of the specific cultures united into a common European dimension. Teachers also need to innovate and adapt to the needs of students. We will work on a SET OF CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) LESSONS throughout the two years of the project which will include collaborative tasks for students as preparation for every exchange. They will be included in the curricula of each school. This topic offers a great opportunity for professional growth as it is a multidisciplinary project which also implies a wide range of competences required for 21st century teaching which will be provided by the teaching team. Students and teachers will be involved in the main objectives by working together with other partners and sharing ideas and conclusions from their work. This project will produce a lot of collaborative outputs throughout the two years. Teachers and students will work on the topics in international teams following the project general plan approved at the first teachers’ meeting. At each school there will be a coordinating team and a collaborative team of teachers. Students will be set in international teams with coordinators in each country. The impact on the project results on students, teachers, families and participant organizations at local, national and international level will be assessed by designing instruments with indicators which will be included in the impact plan to be agreed at the first transnational meeting. We strongly believe that the outputs of this project will benefit educational institutions as well as European schools and that it can have a great impact at all levels. By producing an application for the web, mobiles and tablets by which young learners may be able to build up their own imaginary Roman town and compare it to our current everyday life and by working on a set of collaborative ICLE lessons we intend to provide European teachers and organizations with a pedagogical and up to day tool for their lessons.
