Date du début: 1 sept. 2014,
Date de fin: 31 août 2015
PROJET
TERMINÉ
This project enabled 24 full-time Aviation students to visit Air Malta Training Centre at Malta International Airport, Luqa: 20 students were studying BTEC National Diploma Level 3 in Aviation Operations and 4 students were undertaking BTEC National Diploma Level 2 in Aviation Maintenance.
Participants took part in a structured programme of work placements throughout the airport in a variety of departments, with programmes tailored to (and skills development counting towards) the students? programmes of study, including:
? Rotation through work placements across Malta International Airport:
o Security;
o Customer Service;
o Fire Section;
o Airfield Operations;
o Aircraft Hangar;
o Check-in/Departure Gates;
o Baggage Services;
o Ticket Sales;
o Met Office;
? Visits and demonstrations from key departments:
o Tour of Airport Terminal;
o Visit to Cargo section;
o Visit to Malta Air Traffic Services Ltd (MATS);
o Visit to Lufthansa Tecknik;
o Visit to Ground Operations and Ramp Services;
o Visit to the engineering department;
? Visit at Malta Head Office.
? Basic Language support/practice.
The students were accompanied by five Craven College staff to support their experience. The Europass Mobility document validated acquired skills, along with participants receiving accreditation through their BTEC in Aviation Maintenance and Aviation Operations, and an Air Malta certificate as a result of the visit. Participants not only received accreditation, but valuable experience of working life in another European country. In addition they benefited from improved communication skills, basic language skills and heightened cultural, vocational and sector awareness as an outcome of the project.
The soft skills, and cultural and personal development opportunities, assisted all students, and were very significant for Craven students from relatively isolated rural areas and those from elements of the relatively deprived urban location of our area of recruitment. Their experience of the Aviation sector, particularly hands on work placements, is unavailable in the UK due to current security restrictions. The trip significantly increased the competency of the students and their potential contribution to this key sector within the local economy, as they progress into their careers. The project also increased their understanding of what it means to be a European Citizen.
