Aggiungi Un Posto A Tavola - Set A Place At Your Table

Different cultures, during important moments of the day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), found themselfs sitted all together around a table. They started to observe the different habits of the others about food. Their curiosity increased untill the questions started to come out spontaneously, and with them also dialogue and the wish of sharing took place to this table. An international dialogue was born and with it the wish to share the different traditions to understand their historical and cultural reasons, to destroy predjudices in favour of integration, melting each tradition and the others together, trying to understand how it would be if usual habits would be changed and would be mixed to the others also in every day life. In a context full of cooking art and tradition as the heel of boath, Puglia region of Italy, 35 young people coming from North and South Europe - Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania and Bulgaria - had the chance to follow and reach these objectives by having confrontation on their own traditions through food, discovering contact points between cultures apparently distant, but also differences that made each partecipant curious and interested. The objectives have been pursued and reached through informal and not-formal education activities. These activities took their place starting from breakfast, by preparing and sharing the different breakfasts of partecipant countries, then developed during the week-days through other activities as the partecipation in a radio broadcast, the flash mob that took place to send a message of integration by the song "Aggiungi un posto a tavola", the debate and role game - during which some habits of modern society were put in evidence - followed by an expert's answers to all doubts and questions that were born during the dibate, workshops thanks to which they learnt how to prepare some typical italian foods, tours with a guide to places with a strong influence on history and habits of the area which allowed partecipants to know, understand better and mix to local culture. The activities reached their main goal through a teamwork during which all partecipants together conceived the European meal as symbol of European citizenship that unites and reflects them, and its recipe.
