PROJET
TERMINÉ
The IES Universidad Laboral de Málaga is an educational centre belonging to the Bilingual Programme of the regional government, which rolls about 1,800 students, among them there are students with special educational needs, students with hearing and visual disabilities and students at risk of social exclusion.
The main problems identified in the centre are the low linguistic competence of the students (detected in internal and external evaluation tests), a high percentage of school failure and discipline problems, largely caused by improper use of new technologies and social networks. Some communication problems are also detected among the teachers, due to the fact that there are 139 teachers working in different sections (ESO, Bachillerato, Basic Training, Vocational Training and Higher Vocational Education)
The project arose from the desire to modernize the methodology of teaching in order to meet the needs of students in our school and reduce the dropout and failure rate. Among the participating teachers there are two well-defined profiles, the teachers of non-linguistic areas of Bilingual Section and the teachers belonging to the English Department. The Management Board are also involved in the project , especially the Head of Studies of Secondary Education.
Our goal is to participate in courses that develop the digital skills. Our main aim is to get new ideas for applying new technologies in the classroom so as to improve performance and school life, create enthusiasm and motivate students and encourage teamwork among teachers and students. After finishing the course, participants will have expanded their knowledge on how to use social media as an educational tool, how to increase student involvement in the learning process and how to improve communication between students and teachers. The chosen courses meet these objectives and are the following,
· Using Technology for teaching English
· Social Media in the classroom.
· Tap-into-Pinch Swipe MUSIC. Learning Music with iPads web 3.0
· Effective use of technology in teaching
Structured Study Visit to Schools / Institutes & Training Seminar in ICELAND
· ICT for Collaborative Project Based Teaching and Learning.
· Structured Study Visit to Schools / Institutes & Training Seminar.
· ICT FOR TEACHING
To carry out the project the teachers involved have expressed their interest in mobility, and have participated actively in the design and project planning. A coordinator for the task of preparing this project has been appointed and all participants have had regular meetings to discuss the main objectives and needs . All applicants can demonstrate English language proficiency levels B2, C1 or C2 . They have also attended different meetings in the Teacher Centre of Málaga in order to prepare the project.
With respect to the results and the expected consequences, in the short term new qualifications in the use of new technologies will be obtained and skills in foreign language teaching will be improved. This fact will have an important impact on all students of the centre, as it will include the introduction of new teaching resources created during the participation in the courses. By encouraging the use of new technologies and social networking in education, performance and school life will be improved.
In the medium and long term the benefits are not only limited to the educational centre, but collaboration with other agencies is also planned. So, we will work with Proyecto Hombre Foundation, focusing on the fight against misuse and addiction to new technologies and social networks, with the Teacher Center of Malaga, giving access to new materials and ideas to all teachers Furthermore, we will collaborate with the Primary Schools assigned to the area so as to develop a common line of work and make the transition of these students to our school easier, and with the School for Parents, particularly emphasising on the advantages of the use of new technologies and social networks and on the battle against misuse or abuse of them. We will also work with the City Council and the various Charities that could be interested in innovative methods of teaching and learning, not only in formal education but also in the non-regulated.The results will also be presented in Averroes website, so that the materials can be used in all the region
Finally, we hope that this project will give us opportunities to collaborate with other European countries, and help us to meet the new digital challenges and combat school failure with a modern, European and inclusive vision.
