REFERENCE: 564486-EPP-1-2015-1-FR-EPPKA1-JMD-MOB_ASCTITLE: Master's course in Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry, ASCObjectiveThe Master's Course in Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry (ASC) aims at preparing students to become experts and develop international skills towards doctoral studies and professional industrial careers in chemical analysis and characterization of the structure of materials.Course durationTwo years (120 ECTS credits).Brief descriptionThe Master's Course in Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry is jointly operated by five universities that form the ASC Consortium: Alma Mater University of Bologna (Italy), University Lille1 (France), Jagiellonian University of Krakow (Poland), University of Leipzig (Germany) and University of Helsinki (Finland). The ASC programme includes a mandatory mobility of students within the ASC Consortium based on their choice of a specialization according to our partners' expertise.ASC focuses on spectroscopic analysis methodologies, not on Chemistry, thus providing Chemistry students with all necessary tools in the most advanced spectroscopic techniques at the highest level, which they are able to apply to the research domain of Chemistry of their choice. Their career plan is therefore not narrowed down, as the ASC network covers all areas in which students can choose to assert themselves. ASC provides all students with various transversal skills: competencies in entrepreneurship, project management, bibliographical search and synthesis in link with industry and knowledge of REACH legislation and intellectual property issues. Additionally, during the two years of the programme (integration week, 4th semester research project, lab courses, theoretical course units), students will have opportunities to acquire other soft skills, enabling them to easily adapt to their future international professional environment.Career prospectsThe aim of ASC is to have similar and comparable systems both in the academic and professional areas across the European Union in order to offer an open and competitive preparation for a transnational labour market.Students completing the ASC master with a thesis are better prepared for European R+D careers in instrument manufacturers, spectroscopic laboratories, analytical enterprises or administrative organizations. More than 80% of ASC graduates chose to engage in a PhD project. They are great assets for industries in a broad range of activities (secondary sector manufacturers, sustainable development and environmental pollution and fields related to health, biomedicine and pharmacy). An international experienceThe ASC master promotes students' mobility within a network of research laboratories spread amongst countries from a large area of Europe. ASC students will take courses in English and enjoy a cultural immersion in a minimum of two different European countries. During the mandatory mobility, each partner institution within the consortium will provide optional courses in its national language in order to facilitate the students’ social integration and the acquisition of a slice of European culture.DiplomaASC students receive a Double Chemistry Euromaster® of Science with a thesis diploma in «Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry» awarded by the universities of the consortium after completion of 90 ECTS credits of courses and 30 ECTS credits of a master's thesis. A diploma supplement is also provided. The Chemistry Euromaster® Label was awarded on 01/12/2008 by the European Chemistry Thematic Network Association (ECTNA) to the consortium members for the EM Master Course in "Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry" for a period of 5 years.Websitewww.master-asc.org
