PROJET
TERMINÉ
CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT: We have selected our associate due to:
- The low level of unemployment registered in the region of Baja Sajonia.
- The demand for qualified teachers in the region.
- The quality of the system of dual professional training.
- The excellent rapport that is maintained in this business setting
- Their management experience in international projects.
- Our previous experience, co-operating with this same associate, in the Leonardo da Vinci Program (2011-13).
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Three students and one vocational and professional training teacher.
Our students will do an internship in companies, mentored by our partner in Germany and a tutor in this field of work. We will contact the partner to establish the necessary contacts within the companies. In fact, we already have acquired companies willing to take three students.
Besides this, we consider that the dual system of Germany and their professional training in general has managed to establish a link between professional training centres and companies. Therefore we believe it would be a good idea to send one of our teachers to carry out a period of observation of the management (shadowing) that there is in the training centres to analyze how the transition from school to the working world works
ACTIVITIES:
-STUDENTS: During the first week of the project: integration of the students in the Dual German system, attending the classes with the relevant group, which already our partner has shared an formative offer with our school. During this week they will receive classes in German in the centre; a specialized teacher from our school will give a German course as part of their timetable, concentrating on the specific vocabulary of the profession. Therefore, the students will attend the professional training classes with their German colleagues during part of the day and German language classes for two hours a day. During this first week, each student will live with a German student of the same profession as them, to integrate them better. The students will be able to:
- Acquire professional skills
- Better their linguistic competency
- Carry out a cultural preparation at the start of their placement
- Establish social relationships with other students with similar professional backgrounds
During the remaining three weeks: the students will do their placement in the assigned company, being mentored by our associate, as if they were a German student and with the collaboration of the designated tutor of the company. The lodging could be in host families or in apartments acquired with the company’s help.
Our associate will organise cultural visits and promote the integration of the students at all times.
-TEACHER: shadowing a teacher from the school, in which he/she will observe the management of the placement and the way the dual system functions, analysing the differences between the professional training at full time, that the partner institute also offers. Also he/she will analyse the role of the teacher as a mediator between the school and companies.
RESULTS AND THE FORESEEN IMPACT:
The project will have the purpose of increasing the possibilities of work for the students, therefore we wish to gain:
-Entry to jobs in Germany
-Entry to jobs in Spain, upon their return with new skills and bettering their CVs.
Apart from this the student will better their linguistic competency and their social abilities, acquiring new personal skills both socially and professionally in a intercultural context.
With respect to the teacher he/she will:
-Improve relations further between the school and the company, with the idea of increasing the levels of placements of our graduates.
-Help to start up the Dual system in our school: consulting, supporting ideas, exporting forms of work from the observations during the project to the rest of the teaching staff and to the directors of our school.
THE LONG-TERM BENEFITS:
The long-term benefits are endless, taking into account we are still in the early-stages with four anticipated projects:
-It will better the possibilities of the participating students finding work: in the short-term and long-term.
-It will promote new mobilities of students and teachers in vocational education
-It will implement our school into the dual professional system
-It will better the levels of employment of all students each time we are able to acquire more relationships between the school and companies.
We believe that it may be a starting point to apply in the future for a project for more ambitious students and staff of professional training, covering a larger number of partner countries.
