Utiel language school is a school of 1486 students and 16 teachers, located in a small town within the Valencian region. We teach German, French, English and Valencian. Not only has some of the teaching staff already taken part in European projects but for the last few years our school has also summited several applications to serve as a host school for the teaching work placements organized by the MEC (the ministry of education). We have also been a member of e-twinning since 2010.
The staff taking part in this project is a group of four enthusiatic and self-motivated teachers, three of which also belong to the school management team.
We would like to open our school to Europe with this two-year project by taking part in different courses and/or conferences during the first year and by participating in a job shadowing experience at our host school, a state language school in Slovakia, during the second year. Not only do we want to learn about the new European trends, new methodologies, ICT tools and the current CEFR language level assessment in teaching and learning languages but also about how our host school applies the above mentioned with its students. In addition, we would like to find out more about the levels the school caters to, everything related to the tasks of the school management team, its impact on their society and its European vision. Furthermore, we would like our project to become the starting point for a KA2.
As teachers, we are committed to sharing our knowledge and experience with our colleagues in particular and also with the teaching community at local, regional and national levels. With this aim in mind, there are several projects we would like to set up. First, we want to write a blog about this experience on our webpage, as well as post it on facebook and in our e-tweening teaching room “Comparing different educational systems in Europe”. We would also like to write a report about the differences and similarities between our school and our host school and share it with our board of education “Consellería de educación y ciencia”. Another idea is taking part in workshops and/or conferences organized by the CEFIRE (a teaching training centre). And finally, we are looking to organizing our own conference about European projects at our school, and participating in our local radio “Radio Utiel”.
We want our experience to help youngsters (for whom the high level of unemployment is a fact) to become aware of the importance of learning foreign languages and of the mobility and work possibilities that Europe offers. By doing so, we think they will be encouraged to learn foreign languages. Generally speaking, we would like our school to become a reference centre for European Programmes.
