We’re a group of young volunteers called “Fair Youngsters” who are organizing a YIA 1.2 Initative Transnational Project-. Leipzig / GERMANY ,o EQUAMENTE – Associazione Culturale e di Solidarieta' / İTALY ,o Asociacion Juvenil Inter / SPAINThe theme of our project is about development and cooperation titled as “FAIR TRADE AND CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION-TRADE CAN BE FAIR”. Fair Trade is almost an unknown concept here in Turkey. The reason for that is also unknown… Possible reasons may be the government policies on trade or supply-demand equilibrium. These are just predictions. Our group came up with the idea that not only our group members but also the young people here in Turkey also need to hear and learn about the philosophy of fair trade. For this reason, we defined the primary purpose of the project as raising the awareness of the young people here in Turkey about the concept of fair trade and the importance of conscious consumption.Within the organization of our project, we’ll be visiting some fair trade organizations in Italy, Germany and Spain going on some learning sessions organized by our partners to focus more on what fair trade is, how the applications of fair trade are, how fair trade changes the life of the small producers in South Africa -America, how it affects the economical balance of the whole world etc. Upon learning the philosophy of fair trade, we’ll continue with the awareness raising activities here in Ankara. After visiting fair trade organizations in Europe and seeing how fair trade works, Turkish group members will prepare presentations and reports. These presentations and reports will be presented in the interactive meetings that we will organize to make our voice heard here in Turkey. A workshop about “European Union Youth Program” and another workshop on “Youth in Action Youth Initiative1.2. Transnational and Local Projects” will be organized by our project team to enlighten the Turkish young people about the mentioned issues. Another activity of the project will be a seminar on “Fair Trade and Our Observations on the Fair Trade Organizations and Fair Trade Philosophy”. Furthermore, our project includes one interview-like-meeting with some academicians going on their studies on fair trade followed by the opening ceremony of an “Interactive Photography Exhibition of the fair trade project. These conferences will reach too many audiences, mainly university students. The aim of our project will start with 5 people but then reach to a huge group of young people throughout Turkey. As some fair trade organizations declare we, as “Fair Youngsters”, want people to comprehend the philosophy and the importance of fair trade when we say: The money that you spend on day-to-day goods can improve an entire community’s day-to-day lives! While it’s that much simple to change the life of the community, why don’t we act and learn what we can do? is our question begging for an answer in our minds. To answer this question and more other ones, we came together as “Fair Youngsters” and moved one step more in this unfair world to keep the balance between the hungry and the full.
