TERMINÉ
'Active Voice' Youth Exchange took place during the 22-27th August 2015 and brought together 20 young people from 5 different countries across Europe; to meet and work together over 5 days to create and realise 5 youth voice campaigns that matter to young people in their communities. Sharing areas of concern and finding common youth based issues, the exchange will produce youth campaigns to raise awareness of socially relevant youth topics across the five countries.
The organisations came from a variety of different backgrounds including the UK, Malta, Spain, Bulgaria and Estonia who work with young people from different settings such as public care, disabilities, economic deprivation, educational barriers, special needs, young carers, rural isolation, social prejudice, low employment and other barriers in society. They will be able to share with the group their own perspectives, experiences and realities to make the campaigns as real and as relevant as possible.
Each country researched and shared a youth issue with the group, who went onto to use this information to form 5 campaign groups using mixed media to create campaigns to be taken back to each country. The campaigns were youth led, youth focused and were appealing to young people as the target market.
Using a variety of non-formal approaches including creative, interactive and mixed media methods. The groups were able to choose their medium from radio, podcasting, print, photography, music, film and performance to create a final outcome for their campaign. Whether it was a short film, poster campaign, vodcast, flash mob or eco graffiti; the exchange offered alternative methods to inspire and produce campaigns to awaken young peoples consciousness and provoke thought and raise awareness of their youth led issues.
Once the campaigns were completed, they were distributed to not only within their home country, but also across the 'Active Voice' Youth Exchange network and went viral online. Exploiting the results, raising awareness on a larger scale as well as encouraging young people to share their views and get their voices heard. The majority posted their campaign online however one group did produce business card 'challenger' awareness raising flyers which were circulated to each partner organisation.
We aimed to inspire young people to become active in their local society, developing their ability to communicate, articulate and advocate. Whilst also building skills, developing their knowledge and understanding; as well as their own individual personal development as well as giving them transferable skills to help their future pathways.
