Action for the Conservation of the Aegean Sea
Date du début: 1 juil. 2014, Date de fin: 31 janv. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project “Action for the Conservation of the Greek Seas” took place in the islands and islets of the eastern Aegean, with the main base being the island of Samos. Originally the project involved the participation of 6 volunteers from Spain, the United Kindom and Poland for 12 long term projects. However due to wrong understanding of the host organisation of the way of operation of the mobility tool, we were forced to end the project on the 1/2/2016 and not on the 1/7/2016 as we originally intended, as we had not noticed the wrong end date that was registed on the mobility tool. However, as we believe it was our error, as their hosting organisation, and due to our good cooperation with our volunteers we offered to continue hosting them, covering all their living expenses, to the originally planned dates. During their services, the volunteers participated in the research and conservation work carried out by Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation, including data collection on marine mammals populations and on terrestrial fauna (birds, reptiles, mammals), on data manipulation. Their work supported numerous environmental conservation actions, while the volunteers were also involved in the design of information campaings regarding environmental awareness issues, as well as design of relevant environmental education material. These campaigns had various target groups ranging from the local schools and communities in the Aegean Sea islands, to the wider public in Greece and the E.U. The volunteers also assisted the scientists of the hosting organisation in the gathering of data about the marine and terrestrial biodiversity of the islands and islets of the eastern Aegean, as well as information on the factors impacting ecosystems and species. The final aim was the use of these data in the design and implementation of sustainable management and conservation measures.
