Acting and Singing in English, from Gelles to Europa

Gelles Primary School is a rural school with 137 pupils in the Auvergne mountains, located in an area that is not very opened to Europe. We are 5 teachers. Onely one of them is qualified (according to the French standards) to teach English. We have used the mobilities to enhance our teamwork, impulsed by a federating project in English. The projetc's aims were : enhance our teamwork, improve our English speaking and teaching skills, add value to European cultures towards English language learning The team of the school already works on Oral skills in the mother language. We have enriched and valued that work in English with cultural supplies, building bridges between the inhabitants of the European countries. Therefore we have teached nursery rhymes, children’s books, songs, and sketches, which can be found in many European countries, in two languages. The training session we had, had leaned on the experienced skills of the English teachers in leading choirs and theatre. We had improved our linguistics and pedagogical abilities. Accordingly we were able to implement an evolutive progression for the competences to acquire in English for pupils aged from 3 to 11 years old. We can work coherently on the English and French speaking cultures. We also plan on putting into place an "eTwinning" link with another European school with all the materials. Therefore we can build and value a European citizenship of the pupils and their families by sharing a common culture.
