The A.N.T.Y.G.O.N.E. youth exchange will last 12 days and take place in Palermo (Italy) in October- November 2015. A diverse group of 54 young people (aged 20-26) coming from 13 countries (Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria, Iceland, Macedonia, Poland, Lithuania and Greece) and 13 group leaders will participate. In Europe inclusion is a buzz word and the main theme of the project is tackling social, economical, educational and geographical exclusion thanks to theatre and its universal power of putting people together. Moreover, the project will address the theme of European awareness through the meeting of participants from very different countries. In these days, inclusion and solidarity are very important. Few days ago, 700 migrants died in the Mediterranean sea trying to reach Sicily and tolerance and mutual understanding (Antigone's way) should be now stronger the Creon's law. This is the background of this youth exchange and the actual social and historical context clearly guided us in shaping this youth exchange. A.N.T.Y.GO.N.E. objectives are: to develop participants' awareness on discrimination and exclusion through non-formal learning methods namely theatre and creativity; to help participants think about a more inclusive Europe, and to take proactive action at their local level, developing their understanding and experience of European citizenship; to foster participants' sense of identity as individuals and European citizens through intercultural learning processes; to celebrate the creativity of young people through the staging of Antigone's classic drama, and disseminate the results to other young people and the local community. The A.N.T.Y.G.O.N.E. consortium will select young people, four per country, except from Greece, which will bring 6 participants to Palermo. In total, the youth exchange will total 67 participants from 13 countries. Partner countries will select young actors aged 20-26 years old or participants with a theatre/performing arts background, and participants with migrant background or living in disadvantaged areas in their countries, experiencing social, economic, educational or geographical exclusion. Participants will experience a full immersion of theatre and non-formal sessions, twelve days of activities as follows: - energisers and contact improvisation dance and theatre techniques to foster participants' sense of identity as individuals and self-consciousness; - introduction to themes of anti-discrimination, social inclusion and European awareness to help participants think about a more inclusive Europe, and to take more proactive action at their local level, developing their understanding and experience of European citizenship; - theatre as mean of intercultural dialogue to develop participants' awareness on discrimination and exclusion through non-formal learning methods namely theatre and creativity; - understanding personal identity workshop: experiences of inclusion/exclusion to foster young people's sense of identity as individuals and European citizens; - Antigone's myth to fight exclusion and xenophobia and participants' contribution to make them more aware of discrimination and exclusion through non-formal learning methods; - Antigone's myth: final performance set up to celebrate young people's creativity through the staging of this ancient Greek drama, and disseminate the results to other young people with final performance to other youngsters and the local community. ANTYGONE will use non-formal methods namely theatre and contact improvisation to carry out all the foreseen activities. Trainers will conduct sessions using collaborative art-making and creative thinking. Thanks to the youth exchange activities, participants will: - increase their understanding of inclusion and discrimination, EU policies for active citizenship and other mobility opportunities under the Erasmus+ framework; - develop intercultural understanding and friendship all over Europe; - foster confidence and personal development through participation in non-formal education and activities such as contact improvisation and theatre techniques; - develop key competences (communication in foreign languages, learning to learn, social and civic competences and cultural awareness and expression). The potential longer term benefits are related to the new skills acquired by participants and group leaders who will gain new tools for working with disadvantaged young people and will be stimulated to participate to other projects and apply the learnt methodologies.
