ACE- Active Citizenship through my Eyes
Date du début: 1 janv. 2015, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

‘ACE - Active Citizenship through my Eyes’ was an international training course which took place in Birmingham, UK on 21-28 November 2015. It gathered 38 participants (youth workers, youth leaders, educator, trainers, etc.) from 14 different countries. We came together in order to analyse and learn how to practically develop and strengthen sense of active citizenship and participation among young people back in our organizations, neighbourhoods, etc. This was done through the successive implementation of the following project objectives: * Developing participants’ understanding of the key principles of youth participation and active citizenship. * Providing space for participants from EU and non-EU (Partner) countries to meet and exchange ideas on active citizenship and related issues e.g. democracy, identity, participation, right and responsibilities, etc. * Share of best practices related to facilitation and development of active citizenship and participation projects (e.g. volunteering programmes, youth initiatives, etc.) * Equipping participants with skills, knowledge and help in developing the right attitudes necessary when undertaking projects with young people * Increasing the participants’ capacities for critical thinking with the aim of empowering individuals to take an active role in building of the civil society aware of its rights and obligations as imposed by the notion of citizenship * Engaging participants in preparation and implementation of future joint initiatives within the subject matters discussed. * Creating the network and partnership of organisations that are willing to work together on future projects around citizenship and active youth participation. WORKING METHODS: The whole training course was based on the principles of non-formal learning and hence the main educational methods we appropriately selected and implemented. These included: brainstorming, team building, individual and group work, discussions, presentations, role play games, energisers, etc. IMPACT: On the project participants: - developed better understanding of what active citizenship is and gained practical tools on how to facilitate AC in the local communities; - were given change to self-reflect and evaluate how much of the active citizens they are themselves; - gained useful competences, necessary both when working with the local communities or when putting together and implementing international projects; - expanded their international networks of partners and friends; - got inspired with the different conversations and inputs received. We are confident that these will see useful application in their future work. At the organisational level: Partner promoters may now benefit from trained and more aware staff member, volunteers, youth leaders, etc. Also, information brought back home by participants along with practical tools and methods will certainly enhance the day-to-day activities of the organisations. This relates especially to those carried out in the local communities.
