Date du début: 1 juin 2016, Date de fin: 31 mai 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project Opening Doors' main objective is the prevention and reduction of the dropout rate. Therefore, we are going to enhance our current reading plan, modernize ICT and update the methodology of foreign languages. Thus, we will achieve a pedagogical renewal and endow the school with a European dimension and internationalization of all its members: teachers, families and students. IES Les Foies is a public secondary school located in Benigànim in Valencia. The teaching staff consists of 67 teachers with 54 with permanent post. There are 643 students from Secondary School, 'Bachillerato' and Vocational Training at an intermediate and advanced level from nearby towns. After detecting a 40% early school leaving rates from 1st to 4th of ESO, and considering the academic results of students and the socioeconomic household level, the teaching staff decides that the actions are directed to dropout prevention and improving academic performance, enhancing and strengthening the current school projects: the Contract Programme, the Reading Plan, Improvement Programme and Transition Plan. To that end, we have relied on different aspects such as the modernization of ICT, reaching a European dimension, improving key competences and a Reading Plan. The staff involved will be teachers with permanent post so that they can carry out the activities during the 2 years of the project. To organize the project it is created a selection committee consisting of a member of the board, the coordinator and two teachers interested in this project 10 teachers are selected and they meet the following criteria: be involved and engaged in the development of this project without resorting to any person or organization outside our organization, have a permanent post at school, teach, participate in activities to improve their language skills in English or French, and be interested in upgrading their ICT skills in their classes. All participating teachers bring previous experience, such as Comenius, language immersion trips to England, participation in eTwinning projects; they also participate in the Reading Plan having the project ‘Read your way across Europe’ as their main resource. Furthermore, teachers using whiteboards are taken into account. They can also resolve conflicts, work as a team as well as having a high work commitment, and they will be willing to implement what they have learnt. Our mobility activities and training courses are based on previous activities carried out and shared between European schools and eTwinning platform. These are described in the project chronologically beginning with virtual mobility of students with Italy, surveys with Norway and Belgium, a reader project with Poland and a future KA2 with Italy .Our project is based on 2 mobility activities to Italy to see how they treat the problem of school dropout in a rural area similar to ours, 2 to Poland to share experiences of the reader project (school year 16/17) and 5 training courses in England and one in France for innovative methodology applied to the development of ICT and foreign languages at the end of the school year 17/18.The teachers involved in the project Opening Doors have distributed the following tasks: a group of teachers are responsible for drafting the project, attending courses and information seminars. The coordinator maintains contact with the partner institutions and the management team provides all the data about the school. By passing the project it will be another group of teachers who will be responsible for travel management.Participants in such activities will be teachers from various subjects, giving then an interdisciplinary approach to the school project. These teachers will be those who will spread their learning to the educational community and, within each teaching department, activities will be worked out to promote the new methodologies learnt as well as measurement systems and the analysis of the results. All activities will include the objectives and the methodology used. Previous questionnaires will measure the starting point to be compared with the final questionnaire and the teachers' objective professional opinion, who will be the ones who will assess their effectiveness. The impact will be measured in the short, medium and long term both in terms of academic results and the impact on the organization and its students, who will see their employment prospects expanded and their function within a European society. The final beneficiaries in the short term are always students who feel participants in a common European project. In the medium and long term, the fact of having well-trained competent teachers pushes them to grow personally and meet new academic challenges, being their future employability promoted this way.
