A ROUTE TO RECOVERY OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS THROUGH PEER SUPPORT TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT

Peer2Peer is a vocational training course addressed to People With Mental Illness (PWMI) aiming to train and empower them to become personal coaches of other people suffering from mental health problems. Both learning course and springboard for employment, Peer2Peer training programme will provide PWMI with the necessary skills to be employed as "peer support workers", that is to say, a person supporting other in his/her recovery process, which supports him/her in achieving his/her goals and desires.Based on two innovation transfers, the project aims to form an innovative synergy between various fields of expertise for the purpose of establishing a multifaceted vocational training on peer support for the target group suffering from mental illness, which can beyond objection be considered as marginalised when it comes to the labour market. The consortium hereby pushes towards surpassing the classical understanding of vocational training as a narrow process of acquiring technical professional knowledge, and it does so by:- introducing peer support for assistance and coaching of people suffering from mental health problems and peeer support of both the worker and client, which focus on "recovery" rather than on cure approach;- introducing a simulation methodology for experiential learning to the operative aspect of vocational training to provide the trainees with a space to deal with their emotions related to their integration or re-integration into the workplace.
