A regional school is looking for innovation
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The title of our project is: "A regional school is looking for innovation" Our school is Gymnasio Koutseliou in Ioannina. The students of the school present to about 10% linguistic and cultural diversity. Besides, approximately one third of the students come from small villages (some remote from the city center), several of which show a lack of linguistic stimuli and sociolinguistic experiences The main objective of our project is to manage the linguistic, social and, in the case of foreign students, cultural diversity of students by providing scheduled and individualized teaching in various school subjects through innovative educational approaches. In this way, through new methods and teaching tools and systematic organization of teaching-learning in a new basis, we want to face the heterogeneity which students of our school have. The participants in the project are permanent teachers with years of teaching experience, experience in European projects and familiarity in using ICT. Their selection was based on the above criteria The planned mobility activities are twofold: The first is training of permanent academic staff in Finland which offers training on the highly successful Finnish education system based on the latest international scientific surveys (eg PISA). The second is training in an institution in Lisbon on issues related to diversity in the school environment. The methodology applied for the implementation of the project is summarized in training activities through seminars and workshops. These activities are complemented by planned visits to educational institutions and discussions with experts. The expected results and impact on participants are their improvement in the use of innovative approaches to personalized / graded / student-centered teaching, alertness management in problems that arise in a multicultural class and preparedness to manage difficulties that arise in a classroom with students with differences in experiences and knowledge level. The impact on the school is described as follows: increase the interaction, cooperation and team spirit among teachers, between teachers and students and among institutions of education, renew teaching practices in accordance with the needs of our school, improve the performance of monolingual and bilingual students, contact and cooperation with European centers and schools, strengthen the school’s European dimension. We feel that the school, after the successful completion of the project, could be in the long term a reference center, a center of assistance and dissemination of new knowledge to other schools, not only in local , but also national and European level. Doing so, the school may be able to overcome geographical and other limitations associated with its nature as a small regional school with several students from remote locations.
