The project is composed of triad of on-site courses on the European Union offered at the University of Miami, a series of workshops in Latin America, field research and briefings in Europe. It reflects the existence of a “New Atlantic Community”. This program is designed to strengthen the academic and teaching stature of the candidate, with over two decades of continuous dedication to study, research and writing on the EU, and will recognize the commitment of the University of Miami. The program is grounded on a main teaching course on EU history, institutions, and main policies. Ranked at graduate level, it is open to advanced undergraduates. This central course is then accompanied by two parallel courses. One is a standard course dedicated to the external dimension of the EU. The third course is the most innovative, combining general aspects of comparative regionalism with the EU as a point of reference and specific dimensions of EU-Latin American relations. The courses will be systematically updated, according to the challenges of the EU until the end of the decade. The second component includes a selective series of workshops-seminars developed in Latin America, organized in cooperation with Jean Monnet programs in the area. They will be supplemented with interviews with local EU delegations and general secretariats of regional integration organizations. The main subject matter will be the validity of the EU model of integration and general aspects of EU-Latin American relations Among target cities will be Mexico City, Managua, Bogotá, Quito, Lima, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Brasilia. The program will be reinforced through the development of papers and books, active participation in conferences and outreach activities (media briefings, op-eds). It will permit the candidate to update his experience conducting research and interviews in selected EU sites and think tanks in Europe (Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxemburg, and Madrid).
